    • In a fruit processing apparatus incorporating a chain of elastomer conveyor cups with each cup formed with a single ear at one end and a pair of ears at the other end, each pair of ears straddling a single ear of an adjacent cup with a pivot bushing extending through aligned pivot bores of the three ears and wherein a drive wheel has a circumferential series of laterally projecting drive pins that enter inner ends of the successive pivot bushings briefly to actuate the conveyor, the present invention improves the anchorage of the pivot bushing by providing the opposite ends of the pivot bushing with oppositely facing outer circumferential shoulders and by providing the bores through the two straddling ears with inner oppositely facing circumferential shoulders that cooperate with the outer circumferential shoulder to prevent axial shift of the pivot bushing in opposite axial directions.

    • A power filter assembly including a rotary impeller positioned adjacent a filter screen is mounted in an upright tubular member. The tubular member is positioned concentrically within a settling tank. The lower end of the tubular member is open and communicates with the annular space between the tubular member and the tank wall. Inlet fluid to be filtered passes directly into the tubular member above its open lower end and mixes with fluid drawn from the annular space. Filter liquid is discharged through an outlet above the power filter assembly. Ports in the side wall of the tubular member opposite the impeller discharge fluid radially into said annular space. Baffle means in the annular space prevent centrifugal motion of the fluid to promote settling of oversize solids into the conical lower end of the settling tank which is provided with a valved discharge opening.

    • Container filling apparatus includes a first constantly moving conveyor belt for empty containers and a second parallel constantly moving conveyor belt for filled containers. Filling stations are located in the space between the belts and each filling station includes apparatus for rotating a can during filling and for subsequently depressing the articles loaded into the can so that none of them project above a certain level in the can. Pusher devices push empty cans laterally from the first conveyor belt and the empty cans push the filled cans laterally from the filling stations onto the discharge conveyor belt. Each pusher device automatically retracts if an empty can fails to move properly to the filling station within a predetermined time interval, and thereafter the pusher immediately moves forward again, to avoid shutoff of the supply of empty cans to filling stations downstream from the can which failed to move properly. A device for selectively marking the outside surface of cans at certain of the filling stations avoids the requirement of a separate can supply for filling stations handling different products.

    • A series of pairs of toothed roll assemblies form bights or troughs for reception of whole lemons, and all of the toothed roll assemblies turn in the same direction, every other one turning at higher speed. The higher speed rolls comprise a plurality of discs each having a toothed periphery, the discs being frictionally driven from a supporting shaft. The slower speed rolls comprise toothed discs of the same type but are clamped solidly to rotate with the slower speed shaft. Each of the slower speed rolls includes a plurality of bumper elements spaced along the length of the roll and each having a protuberance extending beyond the periphery of the toothed discs, the protuberances serving to shift the lemons about in the troughs between adjacent rolls and to insure that substantially the entire outer surface of the lemon is exposed to the oil cell puncturing action of the teeth of the discs. The toothed discs are submerged in a pool of water and the puncturing action takes place below the water level to minimize losses in recovery of the oil. A conveyor driven by a Geneva movement advances intermittently to move the lemons from one trough to the next.
