    • The provision of subscriber service features is one of the tasks of exchanges in classic TDM networks. This includes e.g., announcements and interactive responses. According to the prior art, these announcements and interactive responses are either provided by peripheral devices of the exchange which are equipped with the appropriate function or by external announcement and interactive response systems. The latter are provided either in TDM networks with proprietary interfaces or in packet networks with standardized interfaces. The invention solves the problem of providing the service for classic TDM networks by providing that the known packet-based method for controlling an external system for providing announcements and interactive responses is transferred to an exchange located in the classical TDM network. In particular, this enables the protocol used to control the external announcement and interactive response system, which was originally standardized as a signalling protocol for controlling a media gateway, to be used.

    • A switching configuration for PCM TDM telecommunication exchange insallations, having a central switching network and individual sub-switching networks is provided.Line groups having duplicated central switching networks connected over two time division multiplex lines and having a sub-switching network and a group control system each are assigned to each other in pairs. The line systems assigned individually to the one and the other of two line groups and which are connected via internal lines in normal operation to the sub-switching networks of their own line group, can be switched over to the sub-switching network of the other line group. No connections are interrupted which were already through-connected before changeover switching or were in the process of being set up, and the internal lines running form the line system of one line group can be switched over singly, i.e. individually to the connection, from its sub-switching network to that of the partner line group. Unseized internal lines are switched over, or also connections in the call phase are through-connected. For new connections, only already switched-over internal lines are available.

    • A data cell for transmission in asynchronous transfer mode through a switching network of a switching center includes a header containing routing and connection information.This routing and connection information is converted by reducing the number of bits to a neutral connection number and a logical output number at an input peripheral side of the switching network. Multiplexing equipment converts the logical output number into one of many possible route informations for routing along different paths to the same output so that the slices of the data cell are switched along different paths in the switching network. At the output side of the switching network is a demultiplexer for restoring the cell sequence which may have been lost during switching. Output peripheral equipment returns the routing and connection information in the header portion of the data cell to the original number of bits.
