    • A releasable coupling assembly for connecting two members is provided that includes a first member having an exterior surface with a receiving portion and a second member having a hose adapter and a sleeve valve positioned within the adapter. The sleeve valve is in slidable communication with the adapter and includes at least one socket aperture that includes a mating ball that contacts at least one longitudinal groove in the adapter that includes a first and expanded radial portion. When the members are secured together, the ball of the sleeve valve is retained in the receiving formation of the first member by the first radial portion of the longitudinal groove of the hose adapter. When the members are pulled apart for disconnection, the sleeve valve initially remains engaged with the first member until the ball comes into contact with the expanded radial portion of the longitudinal groove of the hose adapter and the ball departs the receiving formation of the first member, such that the valve is completely or almost completely closed prior to disconnection of the members.

    • A coupling assembly is provided that includes a first coupling member removably securable in an apparatus having a port that includes a receiving groove, a retaining surface and a resilient locking member receivable in the receiving groove. The first coupling member includes a body extending along an axis from a leading portion configured for receipt within the port of the apparatus to a trailing portion configured to releasably connect the first coupling member to a second coupling member. The body includes a rib having a ramp tapering outwardly in a direction way from the axis and a shoulder tapering inwardly toward the axis. The coupling member and port are sized such that upon insertion of the first coupling member into the port, the resilient locking member travels up the ramp and then contracts becoming trapped between the shoulder and the retaining surface to secure the first coupling member to the apparatus.

    • A fluid actuated ball check valve assembly having an annular housing containing a ball valve. The annular housing has a first end and a second end. The annular housing defines a fluid passageway having a passageway axis extending therethrough. A fluid actuated ball valve is pivotally mounted in the fluid passageway. The ball valve defines a bore having a bore extending therethrough. Resilient members, such as a sleeve in contact with a coiled spring, engage the ball valve to maintain the ball valve in the fluid passageway. Pressurized fluid in the fluid passageway at the first end of the annular housing causes the ball valve to pivot from a closed position to an open position to allow fluid to flow through the fluid passageway from the first end to the second end of the annular housing. When pressurized fluid is not acting upon the ball valve at the first end of the annular housing and the ball valve is maintained in a closed position, fluid is prevented from flowing through the fluid passageway from the second end to the first end of the annular housing.

    • A frangible fluid couping wherein at least one coupling part includes a self closing valve. Frangible interlocking component interconnect the coupling parts under normal conditions and the interlocking structure includes weakened portions which fracture upon the coupling being subjected to severe impact, such as during an aircraft crash, permitting the coupling parts to separate. The frangible interlocking component include manually releasable structure permitting the coupling parts to be selectively disconnected for test purposes, and a safety lock is utilized to prevent inadvertent release of the interlocking structure.
