    • A motor-driven cart includes a manned/unmanned operation change-over switch, first and second electric motors for driving the cart, a handle lever provided to a main body of the cart to be swung to a predetermined angle with respect to a left, right, forward or backward direction, and a device for generating electric signal for steering and for speed control in response to a swing operation of the handle lever. When an operator changes the manned/unmanned operation change-over switch to its manned operation side and the handle lever is placed in its neutral zone, the motors are put in their stopped state. When the operator manipulates the handle lever in the left, right, forward or backward direction to a position outside the neutral zone, the forward or reverse rotational speeds of the first and second motors are increased in proportion to the extent of the swing operation to turn the cart to the left or right direction or to perform the forward or backward speed control. When the operator's hand is released from the handle lever, this causes the lever to be automatically returned to the neutral zone nearly in the middle of pivotal center by a restoring force of four spring members.

    • A constant-frequency electric power source including an A.C. generator having a field coil, to be driven by an engine and a converter unit which includes a rectifying circuit and an inverter. A controller controls the A.C. generator, and the A.C. generator has at least two groups of multi-phase output coils, one group of the at least two groups of multi-phase output coils being connected to the converter unit for providing an A.C. electric power with a constant-voltage and a constant frequency to be supplied to a first load, and the remaining groups of the at least two pairs of multi-phase output coils being connected to other loads respectively. The output of the remaining groups is supplied to the A.C. generator controller thereby controlling the input of the field coil of the A.C. generator. The A.C. electric power used for the first load is different from the A.C. electric power used for the other loads.

    • Friction plates for a friction type coupling device for displaying a function of braking, holding, accelerating or decelerating by depressing and contacting one friction member against the other friction member of a friction type coupling device composed of two friction plates one fabricated of metals or non-metallic materials or inorganic material. One friction plate has a friction portion which is selectively depressed against the other friction plate and a remaining non-contacting portion. The friction portion is formed as a plurality of protrusions by cutting away, by engraving a plurality of grooves, by cutting away non-contacting portions or by positively forming a plurality of protrusions on the surface of the friction plate. The area ratio of the friction potion to the whole area of the friction plate, namely the total of the contacting portion plus non-contacting portion is rendered less than 60%, preferably, less than 10%, whereby the variation of the generated friction force is made minimum and is able to keep stable friction performance.

    • In a segmented water-cooled induction melting crucible mainly used for melting special metals such as reactive metals or alloys, two adjacent segments are coupled as a segment having two legs, one leg having an inlet water passage and the other leg having an outlet water passage, so that these water passages form a one-way water flow path when they are connected. When the two legs are connected at their top portion to form a shorted portion, the lower end of the legs are insulated from each other and from a base forming a bottom of the crucible. Alternatively the two legs can be entirely separated by elongating the slit and the water passage formed in each leg can be connected throgh an insulative, connecting member. In either case, the water pasage in each leg can be reduced to the same size as the inner tube in each segment of a conventional crucible, and by virtue of this construction, both the radial thickness and the width of each segment can be reduced which enables an increase the number of segments in a crucible with the same inner space.
