摘要： An airline ticket printer includes a magnetic reading and writing station that has a read/write head for recording information on, or reproducing information from, a magnetic stripe carried on the ticket. The ticket is driven past the read/write head by a drive mechanism that contacts the ticket at a substantial distance from the read/write head so that the magnetic stripe is free to flex independently of the portion of the ticket that is in contact with the drive mechanism. More satisfactory contact between the read/write head and the magnetic stripe is thereby achieved. The ticket printer also has a second reading/writing station in series with the first station along a ticket feed path, so that errors in reading or writing by the first station may be detected and/or corrected at the second station.

A plurality of separate storage bins are provided for storing different ticket blanks; each bin has its own feed device. The ticket blanks are prefed from the storage bins along separate guide paths to separate staging areas prior to these paths joining to form a common path. The magnetic read/write head and the printer are located along this common path.

摘要： In a preservation system for a volatile memory associated with a nonvolatile memory, an energy storage portion accumulates energy while power is provided normally. When a power outage occurs, the stored energy is supplied to the volatile memory. Enough backup power is stored to accommodate the vast majority of unintentional interruptions of power. Eventually, after removal of external power, when the backup power decreases to a predetermined amount, data in the volatile memory is transferred to the nonvolatile memory. The preferred use for the preservation system is in an environment with vibration and/or power switching transients that affect the supply of power, such as an aircraft.

摘要： The printer and method are particularly advantageous for use in printing transportation coupons such as airline tickets and reservation confirmations. The printer is adapted to fit into the narrow space at an airline ticket terminal and to be usable in printing single-sheet tickets or confirmations, and for recording information on magnetic strips on the ticket forms. Preferably, the printer uses an ion deposition print engine. Forms are stored in two stacks and fed from either stack through a magnetic recording/reproducing station to the print engine which issues printed forms through an opening in the front of the unit. The form feeding mechanism has easily-removable covers containing part of the feed mechanism so that the covers can be easily lifted to remove or reposition cards when necessary due to double-feeding or other feeding problems. A number of other notable features are provided. The resulting printer produces relatively high-resolution printing and yet is a fast, reliable, simple and cost-effective printer.

In a preferred embodiment, the recording apparatus is a magnetic recorder and the magnetic recorder and the printer are fixed relative to each other during the motion created by the transport mechanism. Preferably, the same mechanism which creates the relative motion for recording also moves the record card into and out of the device.

摘要： The printer records images in the form of dots on electrical discharge-sensitive paper. Three groups of five styli are mounted on a rotor. The paper is in strip form and is fed continuously through a curved guide in a direction perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the rotor. Characters are formed from a 5 dot by 7 dot matrix. A disc is mounted on the same shaft and rotates with the rotor. This divisional patent is directed to the feature in which the disc has timing marks located around its edge with a spacing corresponding to the desired spacing between dots. The marks are detected and electronic circuitry produces corresponding timing pulses, one for every desired dot location. The paper feed mechanism is geared to the same drive shaft as the rotor. Thus, the formation of each dot is synchronized with the paper feed so that the printer can operate at a wide variety of speeds, and can start printing relatively soon after starting. Also, means are provided for varying the circumferential spacing of images by varying the dot count between successive images. Means also are included for providing a variable blank margin at the edge of each printed area on the paper.

摘要： The device records images in the form of dots on electrical discharge-sensitive paper. A plurality of styli are mounted on a rotor. The curved exterior of the housing is used both as a housing and as a curved paper guide. A hinged guide co-acts with the housing in guiding the paper and forming it into an arc.

摘要： Gas flow control units in cabinets are connected to distribute process gas, on demand, to a plurality of utilization locations known as "tool" locations in a semi-conductor manufacturing plant. Each gas flow control cabinet has an exhaust duct which connects to an exhaust duct in the plant through which waste gases from the cabinet are exhausted by a fan to the atmosphere. Low flow alarm signals are generated if the exhaust flow is below a desired level. A programmable controller is provided for controlling the alarm function according to the size of the exhaust ducting from the plant so as to facilitate installation and operation of each cabinet in a variety of locations with different duct sizes.
