    • A tapping tee assembly and method is provided for fluidly connecting to a conduit. The tapping tee assembly includes a body having a conduit recess for receiving the conduit and further defining a passage having one end adjacent the conduit recess. A cutter is received in the passage and engages a threaded region of the passage for selective advancement and retraction within the passage upon rotation relative the body. The cutter comprises a first component with first and second ends and having a cutting edge at the first end for cutting through a side wall of the conduit to establish fluid communication between the main passage and the conduit. A second component is secured to the first component at the second end either by mechanically securing or molding the second component to the first component.

    • A conduit coupling having a body with an axially extending bore formed therethrough from a first end to a second end. The bore is defined by an inner wall including a frusto-conical surface converging toward the body first end. A radially constrictible and generally annular retaining collet is positioned in the bore. The collet includes an outer frusto-conical surface mating with the frusto-conical surface defined by the inner wall and is axially movable relative thereto. The collet has an inner toothed surface defining a collet inner diameter and at least two radially inwardly extending bite-teeth defining therebetween a distance less than the collet inner diameter and less than an outer diameter of a conduit inserted into the bore so that the bite-teeth engage an outer surface of the conduit. In this manner, upon axial outward movement of the conduit, the frusto-conical surface of the collet bears against the frusto-conical surface of the body inner wall to radially constrict the collet. The inner-toothed surface of the radially constricted collet firmly engages the conduit outer surface to prevent the withdrawal of the conduit from the bore. The coupling, which has both single and double-ended configurations, provides unobstructed and reliable communication between conduits or between a conduit and a piece of equipment. The inwardly directed and circumferentially spaced bite-teeth prevent slippage between a conduit and the collet, but do not significantly interfere with conduit insertion into the coupling.

    • A coupling assembly for joining two spaced coaxial pipe ends comprises an elongate sleeve adapted to receive coaxially two opposing pipe ends to be connected. The sleeve has frusto-conical ends opening outwardly and receiving a pair of annular elastomeric gaskets adapted to fit into the frusto-conical ends of the sleeve in sliding engagement around the pipe ends to be connected. A separate retaining ring member is located axially outward of each end of the sleeve to encircle the pipe ends to be connected. Each retaining ring member has a frustoconical inner wall facing the sleeve to define a gripping ring chamber. Positioned in each gripping ring chamber is a separate radially compressible gripping ring member. Separate engagement ring members are located at each end of the sleeve at a location between the elastomeric gasket and the gripping ring at that respective end. Tie rod members are provided for selectively moving the retaining ring members axially toward one another to compress the gaskets into their respective frusto-conical chambers of the sleeve and to radially compress the respective gripping ring members. And, cooperating stop surfaces act to limit movement of the retaining ring members toward one another to provide positive limit to the compression applied to the gaskets and the gripping ring members.

    • A plug valve includes a molded polymeric valve body having a bore extending therethrough. Inlet and outlet branch passages are integrally molded with the valve body and communicate with the bore. A valve member is received in the bore and is adapted for rotation between open and closed positions for regulating fluid flow through the plug valve. The valve body includes a metal reinforcing member molded therein. Centering rings formed from substantially the same polymer as the valve body are received on opposite ends of the reinforcing member to completely encapsulate the reinforcing member. The reinforcing member is received concentrically around the bore to maintain close dimensional tolerances between the valve member and valve body.

    • A universal bracket assembly for gas risers includes first and second L-shaped members with each member having a main body portion and a flange extending from one end of the main body portion. A first aperture is provided in the L-shaped member, in each flange, through which a first fastener can extend. A second aperture is provided in the L-shaped member, in each of the main body portions, through which a second fastener can extend to secure the main body portions to each other. The first and second L-shaped members can be secured to each other in different ways to create several different structures whereby different numbers of gas risers can be supported. The bracket assembly can also be secured to varying types of support structures.

    • Apparatus and method for tapping a tubular member includes a split ring type clamp arrangement having a tapping tee assembly extending therefrom. The clamp arrangement includes a combination alignment/hold structure to facilitate orientation of the clamp arrangement with the tubular member. A combination valve and cutting tool cooperates with the tapping tee assembly. An annular cutting surface on the tool has a first diameter for cutting an aperture in the tubular member. An annular, conical flange portion on the exterior of the tool spreads the aperture to a diameter greater than the first diameter, while a sealing land on the cutting tool has a second diameter larger than the first diameter and is adapted for close receipt in the aperture. A radial shoulder engages an internal surface of the tubular member for securely clamping and sealing the tapping tee assembly thereto. A second portion of the combination valve and cutting tool is removed from a first portion to thereby open a continuous flow passage from the tubular member to the tapping tee assembly. In another preferred embodiment, the first and second portions are retained together and adapted for relative movement.

    • A stab-type coupling apparatus adapted to receive an associated pipe end in a body thereof and prevent its withdrawal therefrom. The coupling apparatus includes an elongated hollow stiffener received in a coupling body recess and providing internal support for the associated pipe end. A retaining ring retained between the body and stiffener has a radially inward extending toothed portion that grippingly engages the external surface of the associated pipe end. A seal means is disposed on an axially inner side of a collet retainer to seal along a peripheral portion of the pipe end. The collet retainer includes a toothed internal surface that selectively engages the pipe end during attempted withdrawal from the coupling body. A generally frustoconical member cams the collet retainer into gripping engagement with the pipe end. A gasket is radially and axially compressed at an outer end of the recess and disposed on an opposite side of the collet retainer from the seal means. A nipple is adapted to compress the gasket and prevent ingress of dirt and moisture to the coupling body. The retaining ring toothed surface has an inner diametrical dimension slightly less than a second diametrical dimension defined by the toothed surface of the collet retainer. Attempted withdrawal of the pipe end is thereby initially resisted by the retaining ring and further withdrawal forces are opposed by the collet retainer.
