摘要： A sizing applicator is provided for applying a coating of sizing composition to glass fibers. The sizing applicator includes a housing and a roll applicator which is rotatably coupled to the housing. The housing has a supply port adapted to receive sizing composition from a sizing supply source, an exit slot and a passageway extending from the supply port to the exit slot. The passageway receives sizing composition from the supply port and delivers the sizing composition to the exit slot such that the sizing composition exits the housing and is received on an outer surface of the roll applicator. The roll applicator is spaced from the housing such that the housing does not substantially contact the sizing composition once it is received on the roll applicator.

摘要： An apparatus for providing a roof structure of the type having a plurality of purlins spaced apart from one another in a parallel arrangement is disclosed. The purlins have a generally vertical portion. The space between the vertical portions of adjacent purlins defines an insulation cavity which is generally rectangular in cross-sectional shape. The apparatus includes a carriage which is movable along the length of the purlins for dispensing a support sheet from a roll for support of insulation material. As the carriage travels along the length of the purlins, the support sheet is dispensed so that the support sheet depends from the top portion of adjacent purlins. The apparatus further includes a first bar having a curvilinear shape which is mounted on the carriage and extends across the width of the support sheet. The first bar is positioned so that the support sheet contacts and is guided by the first bar as the support sheet is dispensed. A second bar having a curvilinear shape is mounted on the carriage and extends across the width of the support sheet. The second bar is positioned so that the support sheet contacts and is guided by the second bar as the support sheet is dispensed. The curvilinear shapes of the first and second bars modify the cross-sectional shape of the support sheet to substantially conform to the shape of the insulation cavity as the support sheet is dispensed.

摘要： The present invention is a non-woven fiber mat suitable for reinforcing resilient sheet floor coverings, such as vinyl floor coverings. The non-woven fiber mat is in the form of a sheet of reinforcement fibers which at least includes semi-coiled fibers and can also include coiled fiber, with one or more turns, and even some relatively straight or slightly curved fibers. It is desirable for most, if not all, of the reinforcement fibers to be made from glass. However, it may also be desirable for the reinforcement fibers to include glass fibers and synthetic fibers. It may even be possible for the reinforcement fibers to include only non-glass fibers. At least one polymeric binder is used for bonding together the reinforcement fibers so as to make the fiber mat a suitable substrate for reinforcing resilient sheet floor coverings, such as an interlayer for vinyl floor coverings. By using a non-woven fiber mat containing reinforcement fibers that are not completely straight and capable of interlocking with one another, a resilient sheet floor covering made with such a mat can exhibit improved planar compressibility.

摘要： In a method for producing hollow polymer fibers, molten polymer is supplied to a rotating polymer spinner having a peripheral wall. The spinner rotates so that molten polymer is centrifuged through a first tube extending through the peripheral wall of the spinner to form fibers. Gas is introduced into the interior of the molten polymer to form hollow polymer fibers. The hollow polymer fibers are then collected as a product such as a mat. The hollow polymer fibers produced by the method are microfibers having an average outside diameter of from about 2.5 microns to about 62.5 microns.

摘要： Apparatus for making dual component fibers is provided and includes a spinner having a peripheral wall. The spinner includes orifices located on the peripheral wall thereof for centrifuging the dual component fibers, with the spinner being divided into a series of generally vertically-aligned compartments by baffles positioned circumferentially around the interior of the peripheral wall. First and second molten thermoplastic materials are supplied to the spinner and directed into alternate ones of the compartments so that adjacent compartments contain different thermoplastic materials. Passages are located in each of the compartments through which the respective molten thermoplastic materials flow to the orifices on the peripheral wall of the spinner. The passages in adjacent ones of the compartments communicate with one another and with the orifices to join the first and second molten thermoplastic materials together into dual component fibers.

摘要： An extrusion system utilizes single or tandem extruders and a mixer-cooler to extrude a foamable extrudate through a die in a sealable chamber. The foamable extrudate is shaped and calibrated within the chamber. The die is mounted on the end of a gel tube projecting through a gland seal in a fixed bulkhead forming the upstream end of the chamber. The gel tube and mixer-cooler are mounted on a movable carriage, movement of which may be used to adjust the die with respect to shaping and calibrating equipment inside the chamber. The mixer-cooler achieves a selected narrow range of uniform viscosity of the melt at the die depending on the size of the product and density. The chamber is preferably a vacuum chamber producing low density foams. The product exits the chamber to atmosphere on a continuous basis through a submerged orifice in a water baffle immersion seal. The mixer-cooler enables a large size low density product to be produced with uniform cellular structure without cell collapse or density gradients, as the product is subjected to the pressure and temperature transformations passing from the chamber to atmosphere through the water. The seal includes the submerged orifice with a free wheeling guiding system upstream of the orifice. Immediately ahead of the guiding system, the parameters of the foam extrudate are sensed to control the configuration of the orifice on a continuous basis. Before the extrudate passes into the water baffle seal it moves over a floating dancer roll, the position of which controls a haul-off such as a vacuum belt at the tail end of the system. This avoids pushing on the extrudate.
