    • In a D/A converting apparatus which provides a converted analog signal at its output terminal by selectively yielding one or more currents from one or more current sources in accordance with an input digital signal, the current sources are selectively actuated to output the currents and an error in the current of each selected current source is obtained from the output derived at the output terminal in response to the outputting of the current. From the current error of each current source is computed a final error corresponding to each input digital signal and corrected data corresponding to the final error is stored in a corrected data memory, which is read out by the input digital signal. The output thus read out is converted into an analog signal, whereby a correct converted output is obtained.

    • A portable unit that may be called from a base station through a radio control channel by a succession of terminating call signals that is sent through the control channel from the base station to the portable unit for a first or restricted time duration (T.sub.1), selected in consideration of a battery saving period of a battery saving operation carried out in the portable unit. Within the battery saving period, the portable unit is put into transient active and inactive states during a first time interval and a second time interval, respectively. Selection is made so that the first time duration is longer than the second time interval to receive at least one of the terminating call signals within the first time duration in the portable unit. The base station monitors an acknowledgement signal for a second time duration (T.sub.2) after the lapse of the first time duration and interrupts the control channel when the acknowledgement signal is not received within the first and the second time durations. In the portable unit, the battery saving operation is released when the presence of the terminating call signals is detected by a squelch circuit.

    • In a pager receiver (12) of a paging system, a reception controller (21) is kept operable when a switch (22) is closed. A first transistor (31) energizes a receiver part (16, 17) at the beginning of a call code part of a received calling signal. If a calling code for that receiver is detected at a certain call time slot of the call code part, the first transistor keeps the energization until the end of that call code part and again energizes the receiver part during a message time slot corresponding to that call time slot in a message code part which next follows that call code part in the received calling signal. A second transistor (32) energizes a display part (26-28) a little before that message time slot. If a message code is detected at that message time slot, the second transistor keeps the energization to generate an alert tone and a visual display. As soon as a blank message pattern is detected at that message time slot, the second transistor suspends the energization. It is preferred that a calling code for any one of pager receivers of the system be placed nearer to the call code part beginning and that a blank call pattern be placed in each call time slot where no calling code is present. As soon as the blank call pattern is detected, the first transistor suspends the energization without waiting the call code part end.

    • Fast and deep fading tends to occur in the communication between a fixed base station and a mobile station which is carried on an automobile travelling in an urban area. When connection control signals or other digital code pattern need to be transmitted between the mobile station and the fixed station, it is necessary to provide a protection system against fading. This invention relates to a protection system of the type wherein a transmitter repeats identical information for plural times and by inverting polarity. The bit error rate against fading will be thus improved and moreover, even if there is a deviation in the pattern arrangement of codes, the DC component unbalance may be avoided. The receiver evaluates the receiving condition and receives selectively the identical information which has been repeatedly transmitted. The invention provides plural circuit systems which are effective for evaluation and selection.
