    • A pedal arm is provided with an arm main body that is a tubular-shaped member formed by bending a plate member having a first end portion and a second end portion, a pedal pad portion provided on the arm main body, and a shaft portion provided on the arm main body. The arm main body includes a first wall portion and a second wall portion facing each other in a first direction, and a third wall portion and a fourth wall portion facing each other in a second direction that is different from the first direction. One of the first wall portion and the second wall portion includes an abutting portion at which the first end portion and the second end portion of the plate member are brought into contact with each other, and the third wall portion and the fourth wall portion correspondingly include a first curved portion and a second curved portion, which are curved in parallel to each other with a same curvature along an extending direction of the arm main body. A first depressed wall portion and a second depressed wall portion are correspondingly formed on the first curved portion and the second curved portion, which are formed in inward convex shapes, respectively, and at least parts of the first depressed wall portion and the second depressed wall portion are brought into contact with each other.

    • An operating pedal supporting device in an automobile includes a first bracket fixedly provided at a rear face of a dashboard for supporting an operating apparatus at a front face, a second bracket fixedly provided at a strength member of a body of the automobile, a shear pin which usually connects first and second brackets to each other, but are broken when the first bracket receives excessive rearward load from a side of the dashboard, and allows rearward displacement of the first bracket, and a control lever supported at the first and second brackets via first and second pivots and supporting an operating pedal via a third pivot, and a middle portion of the operating pedal is connected to the operating apparatus. At a time of the rearward displacement of the first bracket, the operating pedal rotates so as to move a tread portion forward following swing of the control lever. Thus, kick back of the operating pedal is prevented even when the operating apparatus and the dashboard are displaced rearward by excessive load from front during operation of the operating pedal.

    • A long hole is provided on a bracket fixedly provided on a rear face of a dashboard such that the long hole is adjacent to a support hole supporting a pivot of an operating pedal with a partition wall provided between the long hole and the long hole. Also, a control lever is pivotally supported on a front face of the pivot via the operating pedal such that a lower arm of the control lever faces the front face. A stopper member fixedly provided on a vehicle body faces an upper arm of the control lever from behind. Therefore, when the control lever abuts against the stopper member and rotates as the dashboard is deformed rearward, the pivot breaks the partition wall to move rearward within the long hole due to an excessive load received from the control lever. Thus, the support hole of the pivot of the operating pedal can be formed into a circular shape conforming to an outer peripheral face of the pivot, so that no rattling occurs between the support hole and the pivot. Further, when the dashboard is deformed rearward, the pivot is moved rearward to prevent a tread portion of the operating pedal from coming closer to a driver.
