    • This relates to blow molded containers, and particularly to the formation of blow molded containers formed of a plastic material which is subjectable to a high degree of biaxial orientation for maximum strength. Two containers are formed in each blow molding operation with each container having throughout the stress areas thereof a high degree of biaxial orientation. A container may be in the form of a bottle having an as formed open bottom which is closed by a metal end unit seamed in place. Other containers will have open mouths closed by conventional closures including metal end units which are seamed to the container body or by closure caps which may be releasably interlocked with the neck finish of the container in several known modes. In every instance the containers are formed with a minimum of scrap.     • This relates to a closure unit which may be inserted into an open end of a tubular container body, particularly one formed of paperboard or plastic material, and which will have an automatic interlock with the container body and a seal sufficient to hold the closure unit in sealed relation with respect to the container body under all normal usages without the use of adhesive. The interlock between the closure unit and the container body is in the form of a plurality of retaining lugs which are resiliently deflected when the closure unit and container body are assembled and which have a pressure engagement with the interior surface of the container body to form an interlock therewith.

    • This relates to the provision of a snap-in closure for plastic beverage bottles. The neck of a conventional bottle is foreshortened through the elimination of the customary closure threads and the extreme end of the neck is reformed by way of an ultrasonic tool to define a radially inwardly turned sealing flange having a pour opening of a preselected controlled diameter therethrough. A snap-in closure is provided with the closure including a plug with a radially outwardly directed flange, the plug and flange being snapable through the pour opening in the sealing flange and the closure flange and thereafter engaging the sealing flange to seal the bottle.     • This relates to the assembling of a can end with a can body wherein there is an interference fit between the can end and the can body. There is provided an assembly head which receives in centered relation the can end and squares the can end with respect to its axis and where necessary reforms the peripheral portion of the can end. The can to be assembled with respect to the can end has an upper portion thereof entering into a lower guide portion of the assembly head both to align the can body with the can end and to reform the can body should it be out of round. Telescoping may then be automatically effected between the can end the the can body to complete the assembly.     • This relates to the forming of a flared neck terminating in an outwardly turned curl on a metal can end. The metal can end is formed with a terminal tubular portion which is cylindrical. Suitable punch and die tooling is provided for backing up the partially formed can end surrounding the tubular portion and forcing the same into cooperating relation with the curl insert, simultaneously to flare the tubular portion and to form on the end of the tubular portion an out-turned curl. The relationship of the tooling is such that the extent of the flared neck thus formed is accurately controlled.
