A lower mast is rotationally coupled to the a plurality of base vertical supports with a lower mast pivot rod such that the lower mast rotates about the lower mast pivot rod. The lower mast is mechanically coupled to a lower mast winch line bracket. An upper mast is attached to the lower mast and configured to accommodate a wind turbine. A ladder is immediately adjacent to the base plate and the a plurality of base vertical supports. A winch is attached to the ladder and configured to accommodate a winch line. The winch line is attached to the lower mast winch line bracket and released such that the lower mast and upper mast rotate toward the ground in order to hold the upper mast below the lower mast.

The ladder is provided with a top platform and hand rails that extend over the platform. The ladder can be adjusted in length by employing an extension portion with hooks that hang the extension on the main rungs of the main ladder. The extension portion is not as wide as the main portion of the ladder so that the legs of the extension rest between the legs of the main portion of the ladder. The ladder and extension are provided with stand off arms that hold the main and extension rungs of the ladder away from the wall of the trench shield. The present invention is designed to fit on trench shields of varying thicknesses.

摘要： An aircraft servicing pit located beneath a surface across which aircraft travel while on the ground is provided with a ladder and a pair of reciprocally retractable handrails on each side of the ladder. Each of the handrails has an inverted "J-shaped" configuration. With the lid open the handrails can be drawn up out of the pit and rotated so that their legs can rest upon the tarmac surface at the edge of the pit. Service personnel utilizing the pit are thereby provided with stabilizing hand grips which enhance their safety when entering and leaving the subsurface chamber within the pit. When the pit is to be closed the retractable handrails are lifted, rotated, and lowered to their fully retracted storage positions.
