    • An anti-locking brake force regulating device for rail vehicles has a digital evaluation circuit which monitors the speed, acceleration and slip of at least one braked wheel and transmits braking instructions to a brake actuating element. The instructions include a rapid or slow increase or decrease of brake pressure or maintaining the brake pressure constant. In order to achieve a smooth control during a braking operation, the evaluation circuit is such that after instructing a rapid change of brake pressure in response to exceeding a predetermined threshold value a slow change of brake pressure in the same direction as the rapid change is instructed if the threshold value is again exceeded and the slow pressure change begins by a maintaining brake pressure constant phase. The slow or pulsed brake pressure change is preferably maintained for a fixed predetermined period of time.

    • In an anti-skid vehicle braking system an electronic control unit is arranged to control the operation of an anti-skid valve assembly for modulating the fluid pressure applied to a brake actuator. A wheel speed sensor measures the speed of a braked wheel and produces a signal which is converted into a deceleration signal by a conditioning circuit and a differentiator and compared in a comparator with a deceleration threshold value. A pressure sensor provides a pressure signal corresponding to the current brake actuator pressure and a pressure signal conditioning circuit modifies the pressure signal to take account of a load signal produced by a load sensor which measures the loading of the braked wheel. The deceleration threshold value is produced by modulation of a constant threshold value in a threshold generator circuit and a threshold modulator circuit in response to the modified pressure signal. The threshold value is varied in response to the current pressure signal in accordance with a predetermined relationship between the threshold value and the brake actuator pressure, with a higher threshold value being provided for a higher actuator pressure. When the system is applied to the brakes of a low inertia axle, an over-ride circuit is included to provide a signal which over-rides the pressure signal for an initial period when the brake is applied as detected by a brake lamp switch.

    • A skid control device employs a wheel speed sensor and the control circuit which includes a microcomputer. The microcomputer computes wheel speed on the basis of a pulse signal derived from the wheel speed sensor and delivers a break releasing signal when the wheels slip. A brake control apparatus for controlling the pressure of oil for applying the brakes to the wheels responds to the outputs of the microcomputer. The microcomputer contains a free-running counter which counts clock pulses and a memory containing a sequence of storage locations. This sequence of storage locations stores count values of the free-running counter. A pulse signal from the wheel speed sensor is employed to produce an interrupt request for the microcomputer. The contents of successively adjacent locations in memory are employed by the microcomputer for carrying out the necessary calculations and computing wheel speed.
