    • An inline backwash, flushing filter assembly comprising a header assembly, a rotatable valve assembly, and a filter element assembly disposed within a filter housing assembly. In operation, the controller moves the turn knob of the rotatable valve assembly a one-quarter turn which results in the reversal of fluid flow through the assembly to periodically back flush the filter utilizing fluid from the system inlet. Debris removed from the filter element during the backwash process are immediately discharged from the system through a drain port. Simultaneously, the hydraulic shearing mechanism of the backwash process dislodges and drains debris which may have accumulated on the screen and at the bottom of the lower filter assembly during normal filter operations. The controller then returns the filter assembly to filtration operation by a reverse one-quarter turn of the turn knob of the rotatable valve assembly.

    • An environmentally safe and compatible filter and dehydrator apparatus for dehydrating and filtering impurities from fuel materials having a filter housing, a filter element composed of non-metallic, environmentally safe material and a water sensor used to detect the presence of water and generate a signal in response thereto to automatically engage a pump to remove a quantity of separated water from the filter housing, in the absence of allowing air to enter the filter housing. While processing fuel through the filter housing, a natural fuel/water contact forms within a lower portion of the filter housing. As fuel material is filtered and the fuel/water contact rises within the filter housing, the fuel/water contact approaches the water sensor. When the water sensing means detects the presence of water, the water sensor generates a signal to engage a pump to remove a quantity of separated water from a lower opening in the lower portion of the filter housing. The separated water is automatically removed in the absence of allowing air to enter the filter housing and the fuel/water contact is kept at a minimum elevation within the filter housing and away from the filter element.

    • The present invention relates to a filtering apparatus and the method of washing such an apparatus. The filtering apparatus with an upward flow of a fluid to be treated in an enclosure (7) closed at least at one end (15) and containing a fixed floating bed of filtering particles (16) of a density less than that of the fluid to be treated, is characterized in that the pipe (3) for discharging the filtered materials in suspension has the form of a lyre with vent (5) and dimensions allowing the column of fluid contained in the enclosure to be emptied at a speed higher than the minimum fluidization speed, the filtering particles having a characteristic mass per unit volume between 5 kg/m.sup.3 and 500 kg/m.sup.3 and a pipe (1) for intake of the fluid to be treated is disposed in a zone at the lower end of the enclosure situated below the lower level of the fixed floating bed and above the upper level (30) of the waste discharge pipe (3).
