    • A control device for a lift truck of the type having a drive and brake control mechanism, such as a tiller, spring loaded into either a braking or driving arc includes a support mounted on the truck adjacent the tiller and means mounted on the support for restraining the tiller upon its release from entering one of the arcs and for maintaining the mechanism within the other arc to effect the motion control determined by that other arc. In its non-braking mode, the restraining means prevents the tiller from positioning itself in the braking arc and permits the truck to coast. In its braking mode, it prevents the tiller from positioning itself in the driving arc and causes the truck to stop. The restraining means is sufficiently resilient to be overpowered by physically moving the tiller into the other arc to engage the brake (non-braking mode) or to disengage the brake (braking mode) to thereby stop or start the truck.

    • A means for controlling the service brakes and both engines of a dual drive train vehicle having a pair of operator stations. Each station has manually actuated brake and throttle valves capable of metering air pressure respectively to the service brakes and an engine control means. A selector valve directs air pressure to the valves in only one station and check valve means isolates the service brakes and the engine control means from the valves in the other station. An electrical circuit is provided to permit independent control of either of the two engines during starting.

    • A vehicle which has a transmission having forward and reverse control means in which the forward and reverse control means is connected to a bracket member on the manual control lever to shift the transmission from neutral to forward or reverse; the vehicle is further equipped with a brake mechanism actuated by a pivoted brake pedal which is connected by means of a return spring to the bracket member attached to the control lever; the spring normally tends to constantly urge the control lever in the neutral position; when in tension a lost motion connection is provided between the spring and the bracket member to allow the bracket member to be pivoted by shifting of the direction control lever without loading the spring; the mechanism functions such that, when the brake is applied, the lost motion connection is taken up and the spring is tensioned causing the direction control lever to return to neutral; the spring and the bracket member on the control lever further provides an override means permitting the tractor transmission to be shifted into forward or reverse before the brake is released by stretching the spring to obtain vehicle motion prior to complete brake release.
