    • A spectrum analyzer having an improved local oscillator for use in a digital step sweep is capable of minimizing a dynamic spurious response which is inverse proportional to a unit step time in the step sweep. The local oscillator includes a random clock delay which provides a random clock to a direct digital synthesizer to incorporate random timings in a time length of the unit step time for sweeping the local oscillator. In another aspect, the local oscillator includes a sweep step number control which maximizes the number of steps in the step sweep to ultimately decrease the dynamic spurious response.

    • A frequency spectrum analyzer includes a display for showing frequency spectrums in a frequency domain versus power level form, a local oscillator which is driven by a sweep signal to repeatedly cause a frequency sweep of a local signal wherein the local oscillator and the display operate in synchronism with the sweep signal, an intermediate frequency filter whose center frequency is an intermediate frequency for transmitting intermediate frequency signals, a frequency mixer for mixing an input signal to be measured and the local signal and generating the intermediate frequency signals whose frequency is a difference of the input signal and fundamental and harmonic components of the local signal, a detector for rectifying the intermediate frequency signal from the intermediate frequency filter wherein an output of the detector shows frequency spectrums of a true frequency spectrum of the input signal and image spectrums produced by the mixer, a sweep offset control for alternately causing a frequency shift in the frequency sweep in the local signal wherein the frequency shift is equal to f.sub.if2 .times.2/N, where f.sub.if2 is the intermediate frequency and N is a harmonic number of the local signal, and an image removal processor for monitoring the output of the detector and identifying the true frequency spectrum of the input signal and the image spectrums on the basis of positional changes between the frequency sweep without the frequency shift and the frequency sweep involving the frequency shift in the local signal.

    • A scanning radio receiver for indicating the presence of operating consumer electronics by detecting the electromagnetic radiation at each scanned frequency is disclosed. The detected field strength at the antenna at each scanned frequency is compared to a first threshold of 20 .mu.v/m from 400 KHz to 88 MHz, 30 .mu.v/m from 88+ MHz to 216 MHz, and 40 .mu.v/m from 216+ MHz to 918 MHz and a first alarm is sounded should the detected field strength exceed this first threshold. The detected field strength at the antenna at each scanned frequency is also compared to a second threshold of 1 mv/m and a second alarm, distinct from the first is sounded should the detected field strength exceed this second threshold. This device is useful for detecting the unauthorized operation of electronic equipment in the vicinity of mission critical or life support electronics which may be susceptible to consumer electronics generated EMI.

    • A measurement unit U100 measures an input signal to be measured by sweeping frequencies in a measurement range having a predetermined frequency band so as to obtain waveform data to be developed on the frequency axis such as spectrum data in, e.g., a spectrum analyzer. The control unit U200 includes a measurement controller U30 for controlling the measurement unit U100 so as to display waveform data obtained by enlarging or reducing waveform data, before a measurement frequency condition is changed, at a predetermined magnification to have a predetermined point on the frequency axis as the center on the basis of a change in measurement frequency condition set by a condition setting unit U900, and an enlargement display/stable display processor U40 for controlling the display data processor U20. The enlargement display/stable display processor U40 realizes high-definition waveform observation as the gist of this invention, and substantially has a function of controlling the display device U500 as the control unit U200.

    • The spectrum analyzer comprises an input for receiving electromagnetic signals in a predetermined first frequency band and an image reject mixer for reducing the power of images of the received signals while down-converting the signals to an intermediate frequency. The image reject mixer reduces the signal power level to approximately that of the background noise of the signal. The mixer is swept through a predetermined frequency band in order to down-convert each frequency in the received signal band individually. The down-converted signals are logarithmically compressed using a multi-stage logarithmic compression circuit having variable gain amplifiers in each stage.
