摘要： An electrically conductive composite comprising a polyvinylidene fluoride polymer or copolymer and carbon nanotubes is provided. Preferably, carbon nanotubes may be present in the range of about 0.5-20% by weight of the composite. The composites are prepared by dissolving the polymer in a first solvent to form a polymer solution and then adding the carbon nanotubes into the solution. The solution is mixed using an energy source such as a sonicator or a Waring blender. A precipitating component is added to precipitate out a composite comprising the polymer and the nanotubes. The composite is isolated by filtering the solution and drying the composite.

摘要： Solute-loaded polymer microparticles are obtained by immersing microparticles in a bath comprising a selected solute dissolved in a ternary solvent system. A first solvent of the ternary system is a strong solvent for both the solute and the polymer from which the microparticle was formed. A second solvent is a weak solvent or non-solvent for the solute and the polymer (tuning solvent). A third solvent is a weak solvent or non-solvent for the solute and polymer, but serves as a co-solvent with respect to the first and second solvents in that it is miscible with both the first and second solvents. The amount of solute incorporated into the microparticles is controlled by adjusting the ratio of solute with respect to the microparticle polymer, and by adjusting the composition of the ternary solvent system, principally the amount of tuning solvent. The method is particularly useful for providing libraries of combinatorially encoded microparticles containing distinguishable dye loadings, particularly distinguishable fluorescent dye loadings.

摘要： A process for making a PVDF-based powder coating compositions using a co-coagulation process and compositions comprising co-coagulated PVDF, co-coagulated PVDF-based powder coating compositions and substances coated with these compositions. Vinylidene fluoride polymer latex compositions are mixed with compatible thermoplastic polymer latex, such as acrylic polymer latex, and a coagulant is added. The coagulant precipitates the vinylidene fluoride and polymer, and the precipitant is filtered and dried forming the powder coating. The powder coating is homogenous. The coating comprises no solvents and can be applied to a number of substrates.

摘要： A method for creating a composite form of coating from a sprayable solution of soluble polyimides and particle materials that are uniformly dispersed within the solution is described. The coating is formed by adding a soluble polyimide to a solvent, then stirring particle materials into the solution. The composite solution is sprayed onto a substrate and heated in an oven for a period of time in order to partially remove the solvent. The process may be repeated until the desired thickness or characteristic of the coating is obtained. The polyimide is then heated to at least 495.degree. F. so that it is no longer soluble.

In the process 10% to 30% strength by weight of aqueous solutions of partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohols or fully or partially hydrolyzed vinyl alcohol copolymers, which are soluble in cold water, are spray-dried after the addition of 20% to 40% by weight, relative to the total solids content of the resulting suspension, of organic or inorganic pigments, preferably chalk. The invention is also directed to the pulverulent product and its use, wherein the product is distinguished by good flow capacity and an extremely low methanol content. It is suitable for use as a binder in paper coating compositions and in coatings for the surface finishing of paper and cardboard.

摘要： A process for mixing a magma that can be used to make a structural syntactic foam of very low density includes the steps of mixing and agitating the dry ingredients of the foam, principally silica microspheres, in a slant cone mixer to break up any lumps and achieve a uniform fluffy mixture, and spraying a resin/solvent solution as a fog of fine droplets into the mixture. The resulting magma is folded and agitated within the mixer until the resin uniformly coats the microspheres, and the resin is packed into a mold. The filled mold is pressurized and heated in an autoclave until the resin is cured, and then the mold is cooled and opened and the finished syntactic foam part is removed.
