    • In a pneumatic conveyor comprising multiple, assembled conveyor sections, a conveyor section provides a curved conveyor path with a plenum through which pressurized air is delivered. The conveyor section includes a top plate including a series of apertures extending therethrough for delivering pressurized air from the plenum to an upper surface of the top plate. The apertures are arranged and configured to direct the pressurized air to move an article along the top plate in a conveying direction. A bottom plate is located beneath the top plate. A first stack of vertically aligned, individual strips are clamped together between the top plate and the bottom plate to define a first sidewall of the plenum. A second stack of vertically aligned, individual strips are clamped together between the top plate and the bottom plate to define a second sidewall of the plenum.

    • A product transfer device is provided that includes telescoping tubular arm sections that collectively define a fluid passageway and are arranged so that a terminal arm section has the smallest diameter, while the diameters of the succeeding arm sections are increasingly larger. Piston seals in adjacent arm sections cooperate to define a chamber. A product transfer valve and isolation valve control the flow of product through the product transfer device. Pressurization of the passageway extends the arm sections and an actuator device opens the product transfer valve when the transfer arm contacts a container bottom. Pressurization of the chamber causes retraction of the arm sections so that the exterior of each arm section is wiped clean by the piston seal of the arm section into which that arm section is retracted. Retraction of the arm sections also operates a securing device that automatically shuts the product transfer valve.

    • A self-contained powered mobile articulating vacuum boom conduit having the ability to rotate 360 degrees. Said boom may be attached to or removed from a vacuum container. Said boom assembly may also contain means to provide a float shut off valve to the inlet of a vacuum source. The vacuum boom arm may be telescoped in or out, extended or retracted, raised or lowered, lid or shortened or rotated in any of 360 degrees or rotated in multiple 360 degrees rotations. Rotation is not limited by power supply sources. A linear actuators powered by a battery mounted on the boom is an example of means to articulate the boom arm.     • A system for removing packing coke from baking chambers of a furnace for baking carbon bodies includes a crane mounted for movement along a rail, a silo supported by the crane, a suction tube connected to the silo and insertable into packing in a furnace baking chamber, and structure for supplying vacuum to the suction tube to remove the packing coke therethrough from the chamber into the silo. The vacuum structure includes a closed vacuum duct extending parallel to the rail, the vacuum duct having an upper slide surface and a plurality of valves spaced along the slide surface. A stationary vacuum source is connected to the vacuum duct and creates therein a vacuum. A sliding box is supported by the crane and is movable thereby along the vacuum duct over the valves on the slide surface. Each valve is openable by a respective pneumatic cylinder. An activating rail is mounted on the sliding box and is operable upon movement of the sliding box along with vacuum duct to activate the pneumatic cylinders to open respective valves, thereby communicating the vacuum from the stationary vacuum source through the vacuum ducts, the opened valves and the sliding box to the silo and the suction tube. The sliding box has supporting wheels rolling on the vacuum duct and guide wheels positioning the sliding box on the vacuum duct. The sliding box has a sliding gasket sealingly contacting the slide surface. The sliding gasket includes a rubber skirt into which is fitted an elastic gasket of a material with a low coefficient of friction and sliding along the slide surface.

    • In a pneumatic discharge outlet a rotatable discharge conduit attached to a rotatable lading control valve extends outboard of the outlet end wall. Operating handles to move a lading control valve between open and closed positions are located on the discharge conduit. Laterally spaced large headed bolts extending outwardly parallel to the discharge conduit, are threaded into respective threaded portions of the operating handles. In moving the valve element between open and closed positions, the large headed bolts move circumferentially about the hub with the handles. An outlet end cap includes laterally spaced end cap lugs having openings through which the large headed bolts pass. In closed position the heads of the large headed bolts engage the end cap lugs to hold the end cap in closed position. To remove the end cap the large headed bolts are rotated an amount sufficient to free the end cap lugs from the large headed bolts so that the end cap may be removed from the discharge conduit. The large headed bolts preferably have bolt stops attached to their inner ends to prevent removal of the bolts when the end cap is removed. A single dual position end wall stop is provided on each outlet end wall located relative to the inner end of the large headed bolts such that at least one of the large headed bolts and, hence the operating handle, cannot be rotated when the large headed bolt is in engaged position with the end cap. In the full open position the large headed bolt engages a second stop portion of the end wall stop located above the first end wall stop portion. A sample can be taken from the near end of the outlet without the large headed bolt at the far end of the outlet abutting the rotational stop at the far end.
