摘要： The invention comprises an infusion device for infusing fluids to a patient having a plurality of, preferably two, enclosed open cavities, equipped with self-sealing septums. The device comprises a housing having a base, a cap, and a dual-port stem exiting the base and communicating with the open cavities. The cap comprises a tactile raised locating ridge positioned between, and adjacent to, the septums or other self-sealing means so configured that a doctor can simultaneously determine where each septum is located as soon as he locates the single ridge. A doctor can also differentiate between each septum, and determine the location of structures associated with each septum. Furthermore, the ridge is so configured that it does not enclose an area of tissue of the patient, thereby precluding the problem of necrosis.

摘要： A method of using a power-injectable port includes obtaining the power-injectable access port, attaching a catheter to an outlet stem of the power-injectable access port, and implanting the power-injectable access port and the catheter into a patient. The method further includes identifying the power-injectable access port following the implanting, inserting a distal end of a needle through the septum and into the reservoir, and injecting contrast media through the needle at a rate of at least one milliliter per second. The power-injectable access port includes a housing, a septum, a reservoir, and an outlet stem in fluid communication with the reservoir. The power-injectable access port is rated for injection of contrast media at a flow rate of at least 1 milliliter per second. The power-injectable access port is structured for operation at a pressure in the reservoir of at least 35 psi.

摘要： A dual reservoir access port includes a base having proximal and distal fluid reservoirs. The fluid reservoirs each comprise a bottom and a side wall. A dual prong outlet stem projects from a distal end of the base and comprises a first prong and a second prong. A first fluid channel extends through the first prong to the distal reservoir, and a second fluid channel extends through the second prong to the proximal fluid reservoir. A puncture shield is disposed between at least a portion of the second fluid channel and the bottom of the distal fluid reservoir. A needle-penetrable septum is disposed atop of each of the fluid reservoirs. A cap is placed over and around the port base compressing and sealing the septa against the base. A locking collar may be placed over a dual lumen catheter to lock the catheter to the dual prong outlet stem.

The power injectable access port includes a housing defining a reservoir, and a septum. The septum may include a self-sealing material, and a radiopaque material. The radiopaque material may form a selected pattern when an x-ray is taken through the septum for identifying the power-injectable access port as being suitable for power injection. The power-injectable access port may be structured for accommodating a pressure developed within the reservoir of at least 35 psi, and may be designed to accommodate a fluid flow rate of at least 1 milliliter per second. After implanting the power-injectable access port in the patient, the method may include imaging the power-injectable access port and confirming via the selected pattern in the septum that the power-injectable access port is suitable for injecting the contrast medium.

The housing also has an exterior wall forming at least one radial opening to the interior. In addition to the housing, the medical port also has a resilient valve element within the housing interior configured to control fluid flow through the inlet, and a biasing element movably couplable with the housing. The resilient valve element has a proximate body portion proximate to the radial opening when in the closed mode. The biasing element also has a constraining portion configured to cooperate with the radial opening to contact at least the proximate body portion of the valve element when in the closed mode. The biasing element constraining portion preferably is configured to normally resist radial outward movement of the proximate body portion when in the closed mode.
