    • A master cylinder is provided on the cylinder body with a reservoir-receiving mouth formed near the border of the section of of a large diameter and the section of a small diameter of a stepped bore, a through hole being formed between the bottom surface of the reservoir-receiving mouth and the first pressure chamber, a compensation hole being formed between the bottom surface of the reservoir-receiving mouth and the second pressure chamber, a valve seat fitted in and fixed to the reservoir-receiving mouth and having an internal hole formed therein, a check valve provided within the reservoir-receiving mouth between the bottom surface of the reservoir-receiving mouth and the valve seat with the valve element being pressed against a resilient member fixed to the valve seat by means of a spring, a projecting member protruding into the first pressure chamber through the through hole provided for the valve element coaxially with the valve element so that the valve element is titlted to form a passage between the valve element and the resilient member by engagement of the piston section of a small diameter of the stepped piston with the projecting member while the stepped piston is at a return position, and the valve element including a passage formed therein through which the first pressure chamber communicates with the reservoir via the internal hole formed in the valve seat and an relief valve for maintaining the passage closed until the effective pressure within the first pressure chamber reaches a predetermined value.

    • A foot-operated device for controlling a parking brake wherein a parking brake pedal is locked in its operated position through engagement of a pawl member with ratchet teeth. The pawl member is connected to a bracket pivotally supporting the pedal, and the ratchet teeth are formed on the pedal. The parking brake is released only when a pedal pad pivotally connected to the pedal is pivoted on the pedal and the pedal is depressed. Near the pawl member is disposed a lever pivotally connected to the bracket. The pedal, pedal pad, pawl member and lever are pivoted about respective axes which are parallel to one another. The pedal pad and the lever are connected by a connecting device which transmit a pivotal movement of the pedal pad to the lever such that a movement of said pedal pad incident to a pivotal movement of the pedal is not transferred to the lever. The parking brake control device further comprises a spring device for biasing the pawl member in a first direction that causes the pawl member to engage the ratchet teeth while the pedal pad is in its original position, and biasing the pawl member in a second direction that causes the pawl member to disengage from the ratchet teeth while the pedal pad is in its operated position. The force with which the pawl member is biased in the second direction is selected to be smaller than an engagement force existing between the pawl member and the ratchet teeth in engagement with the pawl member.

    • The present invention relates to a brake master cylinder device including a first and a second cylinder bore formed within a body. A piston member is formed with a first piston and a second piston, which are respectively engaged with the first and the second cylinder bores to define a first and a second cylinder chamber, the arrangement being such that when the piston member is moved in a certain direction the volumes of both the first and the second cylinder chambers are reduced together. The piston member is biased in the direction opposite to said certain direction. A fluid conduit opens from the second cylinder chamber for connection to a brake actuator. A first one way valve always allows fluid to flow freely from the first to the second cylinder chamber. A second one way valve allows fluid to flow from a fluid reservoir, within which fluid is kept at atmospheric pressure, to the first cylinder chamber, when the pressure in the first cylinder chamber is below atmospheric pressure. A means is provided for venting the first cylinder chamber, which allows fluid to flow from it to the fluid reservoir, when the pressure of the fluid in the first cylinder chamber rises to a predetermined pressure value. When the first piston member is in its extreme position in said opposite direction, a means for refilling the first cylinder chamber allows fluid to flow freely from the fluid reservoir to the first cylinder chamber, and a means for releasing fluid from the second cylinder chamber allows fluid to flow therefrom to the fluid reservoir. Thus a two-stage performance of brake application is available.

    • A controlling device used in a dual hydraulic braking system of a vehicle including a master cylinder which produces hydraulic braking pressure in response to the pedal depression, wheel cylinders disposed on each wheel, two mutually independent circuits for delivering the braking pressure from the master cylinder to each wheel cylinder, and a regulating valve disposed at least in one circuit of the two for controlling the hydraulic braking pressure delivered to the wheel cylinder. The controlling device is characterized in possession of an operation restricting mechanism, wherein a second piston, disposed substantially perpendicularly to a first piston in the regulating valve, is exposed to air on one end thereof, and affected by the hydraulic pressure on the other end thereof from a circuit which is not under control of the regulating valve, and is constantly biased by a compression spring toward the pressure receiving side thereof to block the reciprocal movement of the first piston, exceptionally allowing the first piston to reciprocate only when the hydraulic pressure acting on the second piston exceeds a certain predetermined value to overcome the spring force to shift the second piston toward the air-exposed end.
