    • Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with generating a network buffer are provided. A network data model is input that includes a set of network elements, such as nodes and links, and respective costs associated with respective network elements. A center network element around which to generate the network buffer and an offset cost to define a boundary of the network buffer are also input. A network buffer is generated by determining a buffer coverage and cost. The network buffer is made up of a set of buffer network elements located within the offset cost with respect to the center network element. The cost for each buffer network element is determined as the cost associated with travelling a path with minimum cost from the center network element to the corresponding buffer network element. The buffer coverage and costs are output for subsequent analysis.

    • An automatic physiological assay device analyzes light reflected by an assay device and prevents ambient light from interfering with the assay device. The automatic physiological assay device in accordance with the present invention comprises a chassis, an assay device connector assembly, an assay device and a light detecting device. The chassis comprises closed bottom, multiple sidewalls, an inner cavity, an open top and a removable top cover. The assay device connector assembly is mounted slidably through a sidewall and comprises an outer end, two sides and a cover. The cover is mounted on the outer end, seals the sidewall and keeps ambient light away from the assay device. The light detecting device is mounted in the inner cavity and on top edges of guides adjacent the assay device connector assembly.

    • A thiocarbonylthio compound and free radical polymerization employing the same.     • Multifunctional “smart” nanostructures are disclosed that include fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-encapsulated SiO2 core-shell particles with a nanoscale ZnO finishing layer, wherein an outer ZnO layer is formed on the SiO2-FITC core. These ˜200 nm sized particles showed promise toward cell imaging and cellular uptake studies using the bacterium Escherichia coli and Jurkat cancer cells, respectively. The FITC encapsulated ZnO particles demonstrated excellent selectivity in preferentially killing Jurkat cancer cells with minimal toxicity to normal primary immune cells (18% and 75% viability remaining, respectively, after exposure to 60 μg/mL) and inhibited the growth of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria at concentrations ≧250-500 μg/mL (for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, respectively). These results indicate that the FITC encapsulated multifunctional particles with nanoscale ZnO surface layer can be used as smart nanostructures for particle tracking, cell imaging, antibacterial treatments and cancer therapy.

    • An electronic device and an operating method thereof are provided. The method firstly establishes a database recording at least one predefined operating gesture, a predefined function corresponding to the predefined operating gesture, and a specific color. An image captured by an image capturing unit of the electronic device is then obtained. When the specific color is found in the image, a position of the specific color is obtained and a gesture trajectory is displayed on a screen of the electronic device according to the position. The method repeats the steps of obtaining the image and displaying the gesture trajectory till it is unable to find the specific color in the currently obtained image. By referring to the database, the predefined function is then executed according to the predefined operating gesture which is determined by connecting the positions of the specific color in the obtained images.
