    • A sewing system which permits automated sewing of an anchor member to a covering material. By operation of this sewing system, the covering material is transferred by associated vertical and horizontal transfer mechanisms to a sewing position adjacent to a sewing machine, and then, the anchor member is supplied by the associated supply mechanism to a sewing start point at the sewing machine. The sewing machine operates to sew together the anchor member and covering material from that sewing start point to form a resulting sewn product of an anchor member and a covering material, after which, the resulting sewn product is discharged from the system to a discharging area. Also, the sewing system has a mechanism to adjustably locate and set the covering material at the sewing start point according to the length of the covering material. Further, an arrangement is provided for adjustably permitting supply of different lengths of anchor members to the sewing start point, for proper sewing with the covering member.

    • An automatic sewing machine comprises a stand, on which a workpiece guide and feed device is mounted. This device substantially comprises an x carriage, a y carriage displaceable thereon and a lever with a workpiece holder for the displacement of workpieces on a workpiece receiving plate. The y carriage is drivable by a drive stationary on the stand by way of a shaft which is likewise stationary on the stand and passes though the x carriage. A drive for the y carriage is supported on the shaft by means of a torque/linear bearing. Driving the shaft takes place in proximity to the sewing head and at a distance from an auxiliary station so that inaccuracies of guidance occasioned by torsion of the shaft are minimized during the sewing operation.

    • The quilting of rectangular comforter bags, mattress cover panels or other similar panels is provided without the need to premount the panel on a rectangular frame. A leading edge clamp is preattached along the leading edge of a panel and the clamp is fed from an operator station to the upstream end of a shuttle movably mounted on the frame of a programmed single needle quilting machine. Opposed belt conveyors on opposite sides of the shuttle advance the clamp and pull the panel onto the shuttle, with the belts gripping the side edges of the panel as it is pulled. A trailing edge clamp bar frictionally engages the panel to provide trailing edge securement to the panel, with the belts and leading edge clamp providing securement around the other edges to stretch the panel on the shuttle. The shuttle reciprocates longitudinally under a sewing head that moves transversely on the frame at a quilting station, while the sewing head operates to stitch a pattern in the panel. A pickup head then engages the clamp and directs it along a conveyor across an outfeed table at the top of the frame, pulling the quilted panel over the table where the clamp is released to drop the panel on the table, where it is folded and conveyed to a stacker. When a first quilted panel is free of the shuttle, another front edge clamp similarly pulls another panel onto the shuttle. When a clamp has released a panel at the outfeed table, it is returned by the conveyor to the operator station for reuse.

    • An apparatus is provided for processing peripheral selvedges of fabric. The apparatus includes a sewing machine unit for sewing up fabrics; an air table mechanism incorporating a number of jet apertures through which air is jetted onto an upper surface of the table in an obliquely upward direction towards a product guide member; a supplementary roller unit which vertically ascends and descends to shift a processable fabric synchronously with feeding of the sewing machine unit; a rotating unit having a fabric holding unit which descends only when sewing of a fabric corner is executed in order to hold and rotate the objective fabric by a predetermined angle and then ascends after rotating the fabric by a predetermined angle; a flange strip supply unit for supplying a flange strip to the sewing machine unit; and a controller unit for integrally controlling operation of the above component units. The flange strip supply unit includes a feed roller driven by a motor, a rotatable pressing roller, a cutter unit, and a pressing unit for pressing both sides of the flange strip fed from the flange supply unit by centering the flange strip around a travelling line of the cutter.

    • The present invention is a method and a machine for automatic sewing of pre-ironed patch pockets to clothing items. The clothing item and the pocket are manually positioned on a work surface at one end of the machine while a previous pocket is sewn to the previous clothing item at a sewing station. After the previous pocket is sewn, a feeder automatically feeds the clothing item to the sewing station while an unloading device simultaneously unloads the previous clothing item from the sewing station to another end of the machine (opposite to said one end). Operations of the feeder, of the unloading device and the double clip at the sewing station are synchronized.
