    • In a joint assembly of two adjacent curtain wall units, an exterior gasket is divided into a pair of interfitting male and female halves carried by respective exterior parts of the adjacent vertical frame members. An interior gasket mounted between opposed interior parts of the adjacent vertical frame members has opposite edge portions each fitted in a recess of the respective interior part and projecting beyond the interfitting edges of the male and female gasket halves. In installation, one of the opposite edge portions of the interior gasket can be observed by the workman's eye through a gap between the male and female gasket halves while it is being inserted into the recess of the corresponding interior part.

    • In order to assemble a unit type curtain wall, curtain wall units are successively mounted by the steps of positioning a lower edge portion of a curtain wall unit to be mounted relative to an upper edge portion of an existing curtain wall unit positioned therebelow in a direction orthogonal to a curtain wall surface to provisionally connect them together, moving the unit in a direction parallel to the curtain wall surface to connect with another existing curtain wall unit positioned to left or right, and thereafter perpendicularly moving the curtain wall unit to be mounted so as to be secured to a building body and the existing curtain wall units.

    • There is provided corner joint means which facilitates reliable connection of two wall members placed adjacent to each other at a concave or a convex angle portion i.e., corner portion, in the wall structure of buildings. The corner joint means also provides a simple heat insulating construction at the corner portion of the wall structure. The corner joint means of this invention comprises a pair of foundation assemblies each having one end thereof fixedly connected to the respective wall members, and a plurality of plate-like attachment members spaced in the depth direction of the corner portion and extending between the foundation assemblies. Each of the attachment members is so arranged that one end thereof is fixedly connected to one of the foundation assemblies and the other end thereof is slidably connected to the other foundation assembly.

    • A cooling and heating air jet device in a building interior or exterior structure including a framework of hollow vertical and horizontal wall support members is disclosed. The framework of hollow wall support members forms an air duct through which cooling or heating air is passed. A selected one of the wall support members is formed with a plurality of air jet openings spaced in the longitudinal direction of the same. The hollow interior of the selected one wall support member is divided into two adjacent and parallel chambers by a partition wall having a plurality of communication holes spaced in the longitudinal direction of the same. One of the chambers forms a part of the air duct and a first pressure equalizing chamber and the other one of the chambers forms a second pressure equalizing chamber. The plurality of air jet openings are formed in the side wall of the second pressure equalizing chamber.

    • A thermally improved expanded store front system is disclosed including vertical mullions and horizontal members. The vertical mullions comprise a structural mullion portion which is securely attached to the sill and head members and an exterior mullion half removably secured by anchor means to said structural mullion. The mullions when assembled are adapted to receive clip means which secure the horizontal members in place without the need for screws thereby allowing the members to expand and contract without undue stress. The vertical mullions and horizontal members, which are cut to predetermined lengths may be easily spliced for typical multi-story applications.

    • A pair of identically formed facing sheets are joined along opposite side edges and include a fiberglass core therebetween. Each of the facing sheets includes a central web section, a side wall extending inwardly from each side edge thereof, a first flange extending inwardly from the free edge of one of the side walls and a second flange extending outwardly from the free edge of the other of said side walls. Both flanges are substantially parallel to the central web section. The pair of facing sheets are positioned opposite each other and with the first flange of each sheet adjacent the second flange of the opposite sheet. A support member is inserted in the space formed by the inwardly extending flange, adjoining side wall, and opposite section of the central web. Finally, the flanges are joined with fasteners, with a strip of heat non-conducting, material inserted between the adjoining flanges of the facing sheets when assembled to minimize transfer of heat and/or prevent flow of current from one facing sheet to the other.In joining one of the aforementioned building panels to an adjacent panel, the panels are positioned together with a side edge of one in overlapped relationship with the corresponding edge of the other. A plastic nonadherent force absorbing member or rod is inserted between the adjoining side walls of the adjacent panels along the inside and outside juxtaposed surfaces. The force absorbing member is then covered with a silicon base, cementitious material which forms an elastomeric joint, uniting the two panels together. The elastomeric joint allows expansion and contraction due to temperature change without shearing of the silicon cementitious material.

    • A two-span wall panel construction includes a plurality of spaced, horizontal structural girts with liner panels secured between each three adjacent girts. Horizontally extending subgirts are attached to the liner panels and exterior panels are secured to the subgirts. The exterior panels are corrugated and mounted so that the corrugations extend parallel to the vertical structural columns. A plurality of notches is located on the outer surface of the exterior panel. The notches are aligned midway between the horizontal structural girts and can be varied in depth to cause the exterior panel to fail at the notch when subjected to a predetermined external load. Additional notches can be positioned on the inner surface of the exterior panel in alignment with the other notches. The adjacent, vertical liner panels are positioned in slightly spaced relationship at the end girts and the exterior panels are positioned in overlapping and unattached relationship at the end girts. Clips for holding the liner panels are secured to the end girts between the adjacent liner panels. These clips have angular flanges which pinch the adjacent liner panels against the end structural girts. External forces of predetermined magnitude cause the liner panels to deform about the middle girt as the liner panels pivot about and release from the clip flanges. Simultaneously, the overlapping exterior panels yield at their notched portions, release at their overlapping ends, and deform about the middle girt.
