摘要： The present invention is directed to a process for preparing a condensation product of a glyoxylic reactant and a hydrocarbyl-substituted aromatic compound having at least one hydroxy functionality, which includes (a) providing the glyoxylic reactant in the form of a compound represented by the formula ##STR1## or its reactive equivalent, wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 independently are hydrogen or hydrocarbyl group of 1 to about 4 carbon atoms; and R.sup.2 and R.sup.4 independently are hydrocarbyl groups of 1 to about 4 carbon atoms; (b) mixing the aromatic compound with the glyoxylic reactant; and (c) heating the mixture to a temperature of about 50.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C. in the presence of an acid catalyst for a sufficient time to form the condensation product.

In particular, the defoaming agents and demulsifiers are comprised of copolymers which have structures constituting a backbone of polysiloxane onto which is grafted an organic group. These structures comprise a polymer of the formula MD.sub.x D'.sub.y D".sub.z M, where M is O.sub.0.5 Si(CH.sub.3).sub.3, D is a OSi(CH.sub.3).sub.2, D' is OSi(CH.sub.3)R, D" is OSi(CH.sub.3)R', R is a polyhydric C.sub.6 -C.sub.28 organic group, R' is a phenol derivative or a long chain aliphatic group or polyethers, z is between 0 and 80, x+y+z is between 10-200, x/z is .gtoreq.1, and x/(y+z) is between about 1 and about 5, or formula M'D.sub.a M' where M' is O.sub.0.5 Si(CH.sub.3).sub.2 R, a is between 4-10, and R and D are the same as defined above.

摘要： A lubricating oil comprising an add mixture of the following components: (A) a complex alcohol ester basestock which comprises the reaction product of an add mixture of the following: (1) a polyhydroxyl compound represented by the general formula:R(OH).sub.nwherein R is any aliphatic or cyclo-aliphatic hydrocarbyl group and n is at least 2, provided that the hydrocarbyl group contains from about 2 to 20 carbon atoms; (2) a polybasic acid or an anhydride of a polybasic acid, provided that the ratio of equivalents of the polybasic acid to equivalents of alcohol from the polyhydroxyl compound is in the range between about 1.6:1 to 2:1; and (3) a monohydric alcohol, provided that the ratio of equivalents of the monohydric alcohol to equivalents of the polybasic acid is in the range between about 0.84:1 to 1.2:1; wherein the complex alcohol ester exhibits a viscosity in the range between about 100-700 cSt at 40.degree. C. and having a polybasic acid ester concentration of less than or equal to 70 wt. %, based on the complex alcohol ester; and (B) at least one additional basestock.

摘要： A grafted polyolefin containing one or more of N-vinylimidazole, 4-vinylpyridine, or other ethylenically-unsaturated nitrogen-containing or oxygen-containing graftable monomers grafted to a polyolefin copolymer is disclosed. The grafted polyolefin preferably has a weight average molecular weight of from about 20,000 to about 500,000, a polydispersity of less than about 10, and an ADT value of at least about 8. The grafted polyolefin can be defined as containing more than about 1.2% by weight of grafted monomer on a polyolefin, or as containing at least about 13 moles of graftable monomers per mole of polyolefin, or as having an asphaltene dispersancy test (ADT) value of at least about 8. Also described is a lubricating oil comprising a lubricant base oil and a grafted polyolefin as described above. Also described is a method of making a dispersant viscosity index improver. N-vinylimidazole or other ethylenically unsaturated nitrogen-containing and/or oxygen-containing graftable monomers and a graftable polyolefin are reacted with enough of an initiator to graft the monomer to the polyolefin. The initiator and/or graftable monomer is added to the other ingredients, maintained at the reaction temperature, over a period of time. The reaction temperature is maintained at a level high enough to give acceptable reaction times. The N-vinylimidazole and the initiator each can be added at a uniform, relatively slow rate during the reaction.

摘要： A lubricant composition is disclosed which comprises, a triglyceride oil lubricant and an oil soluble copper compound antioxidant. The oil soluble copper compounds are particularly effective antioxidants for triglycerides. The lubricant composition can include soluble zinc compounds which reduce wear and/or soluble antimony compounds which reduce wear and can function as adjuvant antioxidants reducing the amount of oil soluble copper required. Preferred zinc and antimony compounds are zinc dithiophosphate antiwear/antioxidant, and antimony dialkyldithiocarbamate antioxidant adjuvant.

摘要： The present invention resides in a turbo oil composition exhibiting enhanced antioxidancy and resistance to deposit formation, and to a method for achieving that result in turbo oils. The gas turbine lubricating oil of the present invention comprises a major proportion of synthetic polyol ester based base stock including diesters and polyol esters, preferably polyol ester based base stock and a minor proportion of an antioxidant/deposit control additive, specifically a sulfur-containing carboxylic acid (SCCA) derivative. Other conventional additives such as extreme pressure, pour point reduction, oxidative stability, anti-foaming, hydrolytic stability, improved viscosity index performance, anti-wear, and corrosion inhibitor additives and others may also be employed. The use of SCCA derivative produces a turbo oil exhibiting markedly superior oxidation stability and deposit control performance compared to that exhibited by turbo oil without the SCCA derivative.

摘要： Process for preparing high overbased metal sulfurized alkylphenates, wherein a majority of the alkalinity is provided by at least a stoichiometric excess of metal. The process is characterized by a sulfurization reaction using a promoter, followed by overbasing with carbon dioxide, a polyamine, and additional metal base in the presence of an alkylene glycol under reactive conditions at temperatures in the range of about from 150.degree. C. to 190.degree. C. The process affords a metal sulfurized phenate product which is substantially insensitive to overcarbonation, which exhibits low corrosive wear, and which exhibits high rates of acid neutralization. These compositions are useful in the formulation of marine cylinder lubricants.
