    • A unitary integral electrically heated nozzle device for plastic molding or die casting equipment which has a novel casing integral with a heater core, which is insulated to prevent conduction of electricity and loss of thermal transmission to the casing, the electrical insulation being compacted within the casing and around the heater core and the assembly being sealed and swaged into a unitary form, the device being structured to heat the area of a gate or passage for delivery of molten material into a forming cavity. The nozzle device may be shaped, and the nozzle systems include such nozzle devices in the gate channels for delivering molten material to the forming cavity. The invention also includes a heated nozzle of the character referred to wherein at least a part of the electrical insulation comprises a layer of mica or ceramic insulator material having electrical resistance wire wound thereabout, and a method for making such a nozzle which includes the steps of winding electrical resistance wire about a strip of green insulator material, fitting the wire wound strip in a casing and insulating the wire from the casing, compressing the assembly and heating the compressed assembly. The invention also includes a lead arrangement where the unitary nozzle is opened midway its ends to expose the wires and lead are connected sealed and insulated through the casing; and also included is a method for making such a lead arrangement.

    • A heating unit preheats and stabilizes No. 2 fuel oil delivered through a conduit to the nozzle of an oil burner for optimizing efficiency of combustion. The heating unit is generally formed around a section of oil conduit or other elongate tubular metal core (18) at least equal to the inside diameter of the oil delivery conduit in which it is to be incorporated. At least one coat or layer (20) of heat conducting electrically insulating porcelain-like cement is formed on the core. A helical heating element or coil (21) of high temperature alloy wire surrounds the layer (20) and core (18). The outside of the coil is covered by an electrical and thermal insulating second layer (22) of refractory-type cement of lower thermal conductivity than the porcelain-like cement. The entire unit may be housed in an elongate box (16) packed with high temperature insulation (27) and with high temperature double insulated lead wires (24, 25, 26) extending into the box from the secondary of a 12-14 volt, 4-7 amp transformer. In the preferred example the heating coil ( 21) comprises resistance wire of flat ribbon configuration of an alloy such as "Kanthol D", dimensioned to provide a total resistance in relation to the power supply so that the temperature of the coil is self limiting to the approximate range of from 70.degree. F. (21.degree. C.) to 175.degree. F. (80.degree. C.).

    • A cartridge heater with improved thermocouple comprising a tubular metal sheath with a front end, a metal plug closing the front end, a filler of dielectric material in the sheath rearward of the plug and an elongate resistance wire supported by the filler, said plug having a pair of spaced axially extending through holes, elongate insulating tubes with front and rear ends and engaged in said holes with their front ends spaced predetermined limited distances from the open front ends of the holes, a pair of elongate thermocouple wires with front end portions engaged through the sleeves and projecting forwardly therefrom and rear portions supported in said filler and projecting rearwardly through and from the sheath and metal deposits in the forward position of the holes in the plug in sealing engagement therewith and in heat conducting contact with the thermocouple wires.
