    • An acoustic transducer comprising a housing, and first and second stacks ofransduction plates disposed within the housing for engaging opposed wall portions of the housing, the first and second stacks being adapted to be held in compression between the housing opposed wall portions. A threaded stud extends from the first stack to the second stack, and a nut is threadedly engaged with the stud and adjacent one of the stacks. Movement of the nut on the stud operates to move the stacks toward the housing walls, respectively, to compress the stacks, and operates to relax compressive force on the stacks to enable withdrawal of one of the stacks and replacement thereof.

    • An acoustic transducer is constructed as a stacked configuration of multiyer transducer elements separated from one another by an electrical insulating material. Each multi-layer transducer element has a layer of acoustically transparent electro-acoustic transducer material having opposing planar surfaces with electrically conductive material deposited thereon. For each multi-layer transducer element, the electrically conductive material is formed into parallel strips electrically isolated from one another on at least one of each element's opposing planar surfaces. The parallel strips associated with each multi-layer transducer element have a unique angular orientation.

    • This invention is for a single lamina twisting transducer made of an electrodeformable material. The twisting transducer has responsivity vectors which are curved or circular in nature so that when an electric field is applied the transducer will twist, exserting an angular force rather than a linear force as prior art transducers do. The twisting lamina can be stacked with a common electrode between them. The transducers can be used in actuators to provide angular forces in actuators. When combined in actuator stacks with linear transducers the actuator stack can be controlled in six degrees of freedom. Thus accurate moving and positioning of objects can be accomplished by use of such an actuator stack. Further since such an actuator stack is sensitive to accelerations in six degrees of freedom it can be used in making an accelerometer. Other uses for twisting actuators are for motors and rotational positioning of objects.

    • The present invention relates to a beam forming device for forming a uniform radiation beam and/or a reception beam. In radiation, the transducer is vibrated in such a way that the pressure of a sound wave produced from each point of the vibrating surface of the transducer is determined based on a weight function, thereby forming a radiation beam. In reception, electric signals are derived based on the sound energy received in a manner that the amplitude level of an electric signal produced based on the sound energy received by each point of the vibrating surface of the transducer is determined based on a weight function, and the derived signals are combined with one another to form a reception beam.
