    • Providing an antenna device and a portable radio communication device whose conductive plate for use in reducing the amount of the electromagnetic waves to be absorbed into a human body can be reduced in size. The portable radio communication device 1 includes a circuit board (not shown) necessary for performing radio communication, shield case 2 as a ground conductor which shields the circuit board, a conductive plate 3, an antenna feeding portion 4, and an antenna 5. The circuit board, shield case 2, and conductive plate 3 are enclosed by a housing (not shown) made of nonconductive material. The conductive plate 3 has its one end along the longitudinal direction connected to the shield case 2 to form a short circuit via the conductor 7, and has its other end electrically opened from the shield case 2. The conductive plate 3 has two slits 8a, 8b near the conductor 7.

    • A loop antenna device has a first antenna generating a first magnetic field and a second antenna generating a second magnetic field such that the first magnetic field and the second magnetic field each have a different axis. A series resonant circuit and a parallel resonant circuit are provided for the first antenna and the second antenna, respectively. The series resonant circuit has at least a second coil, a link coil wound around a ferrite core, and a capacitor in series. The parallel resonant circuit has a first coil and a capacitor. When one of the first and second antennas are disposed in the vicinity of a conductor, an electromagnetic wave absorbing member is disposed between a conductor and one of the first and second antennas.

    • A shielding method and apparatus for an antenna disposed on an elongated support adapted for disposal within a borehole. The shield providing predetermined attenuation of one or more electromagnetic energy field components as the field components interact with the shield. The shield composed of a flexible strip or cylindrical body and respectively comprising a transverse conductive element or a transverse slot therein. The shields being adapted to cover an antenna mounted on the support. The shields being compatible for use in conjunction with saddle, tilted coils or multi-layered tri-axial coils to produce a pure transverse magnetic dipole electromagnetic field. The shields are also used in methods for shielding an antenna disposed on a support to provide predetermined attenuation of an electromagnetic field component as the field components interact with the shield.
