The system architecture comprises a communications module to receive a query from a remote end-user where the query includes one or more characters contained within a first single communications packet. A query engine is coupled to the communications module. The query engine uses the one or more characters from the query to predictively match keywords contained within a data structure (e.g., a database) and forms a response from the one or more characters. The response is transmitted back to the end-user within a second single TCP communications packet.

摘要： Providing incremental search suggestions from a content database include accessing the content database to determine possible candidates for the search suggestions, scoring each of the candidates based at least partially on a non-monotonic document frequency function, where candidates that appear a first amount corresponding to a relatively frequent occurrence in the content database and candidates that appear a second amount corresponding to a relatively infrequent occurrence in the content database both score lower than candidates that appear in the content database with a frequency that is between the first amount and the second amount, and ordering the possible candidates based on at least the scoring. Possible candidates may include named entities and n-grams. The n-grams may only be unigrams and bigrams. Stop words may be filtered out of the n-grams. Scoring may include taking into account term frequency.

The search system may include a user interface for a search engine in communication with one or more server devices over a network connection. In one embodiment, the search system may process a partial search query from a user and present search suggestions to complete the partial query. In another embodiment, the complete search query may be used as a new search query. The search system may process the new search query, run an entity extraction, find related entities from the entity co-occurrence knowledge base, and present said related entities in a drop down list.

The entity co-occurrence knowledge base, which may include a repository where entities may be indexed as entities to entities, entities to topics, or entities to facts among others, may return fast and accurate suggestions to the user to complete the search query. The suggestions may include alternates to the partial query provided by the user that may enhance and save time when performing searches.
