摘要： A lower portion of a shell is slidable along the length of the body of a gas cylinder, the upper portion of the shell is larger than the lower portion and includes a wall extending fixedly from the lower portion configured to laterally surround the valve, gauge and regulator on an end of the gas cylinder and is movable with the lower portion so that it can movably extend over the body of the cylinder. In another design, a rigid shield is mounted on a bar so that it extends over a periphery of the valve, gauge and regulator group that is mounted on an end of the gas cylinder to protect the group against damage by a foreign object when the cylinder is pressed into spaced apart brackets on the bar that prevent rotation of the cylinder around the bar, by a belt around the cylinder and bar. At least one of the brackets is configured to receive a second cylinder.

摘要： A gas storage system formed of a continuous pipe wound in plural layers, each layer having plural loops. The pipe may be distributed within a container, which may serve as a carousel for winding the pipe and as a gas containment device. When containers, each containing a continuous pipe are stacked upon each other, the weight of upper containers may be born by the walls of lower containers, thus preventing lower layers of pipe from suffering stresses due to crushing by upper layers. A method of transporting gas to a gas distribution facility including obtaining a supply of gas at a gas supply point remote from the gas distribution facility, injecting the gas into a continuous pipe bent to form plural layers, each layer including plural loops of pipe, transporting the continuous pipe along with the gas to the gas distribution facility preferably in a ship and discharging the gas at the gas distribution facility. It is preferred that cooling of the pipe during discharging of the gas be conserved so that during subsequent filling the pipe is initially cool. Also, in a further aspect of the invention, during filling, the gas pressure should be maintained as constant as possible for example by controlled release of an incompressible liquid from the pipe as the pipe is filled with gas. Energy from the incompressible liquid may then be recovered or dissipated outside of the pipes.

The solid methane melts and cools the vapors below the vaporization temperature to condense them. The condensed vapors and melted solid can be mixed with liquid methane for use therewith. The solid methane is produced by cooling liquid methane or natural gas in a liquid nitrogen heat exchanger or refrigerator. The liquid methane is solidified in a sheet on an endless belt, which breaks the sheet into pieces at a tail section.

摘要： An underground compressed natural gas ("CNG") storage and service system is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of underground storage containers, a compressor for compressing natural gas, and first conduit means for conducting CNG from the compressor to the storage containers and from the storage containers to a vehicle or other location. In one embodiment, each storage container is an elongated (e.g., 100 feet) string of conventional oil field casing sealed at both ends and positioned in a borehole drilled into the earth. A reinforcing concrete sheath surrounds the casing. A siphon line is disposed within the casing for removing contaminating material that accumulates therein.Also provided is a method of installing an underground CNG storage apparatus having a predetermined gas volume capacity.

摘要： Several high pressure gas cylinders are attached together in a pack, each container having a valve at one end that controls flow of gas from the cylinder and each valve having a removable valve control handle, the cylinders being arranged coextensive and contiguous in the pack with all cylinder valves at the same end of the pack, a gas manifold at that end of the pack having a gas input for each cylinder and a gas output for feeding gas to a utilization device, a gas line from each cylinder valve to one of the manifold inputs and a manifold valve at the manifold output, so arranged that the manifold valve controls gas flow from the pack of cylinders to the utilization device and the cylinder valves control gas flow from each cylinders to the utilization device. In a preferred embodiment, a protective valve cap is provided for each cylinder valve secured to the cylinder and the valve control handle therefor is removable from and attachable to the valve without removing the cap, whereby all cylinder valve control handles in the pack can be removed and the valves are at all times protected by the caps, even while the pack provides gas to the utilization device, and so damage to the valves and/or tampering with the valves is prevented.

摘要： A group of pressurized gas cylinders are integrated into a unit to prevent relative motion between them, especially during transport, by a system of banding which can be quickly applied when needed and quickly cut away when separation of the cylinders is required. A central pair of the cylinders is banded tightly together, whereafter end pairs of the cylinders are integrated into the whole by a tight peripheral band surrounding the entire array. The posts are located so as to deflect portions of the peripheral band inwardly to increase its degree of wrap around the end pairs of cylinders. Two spacer bars covered by frictional sleeves are supported by the posts and extend between the paired cylinders so that the bands, when applied, force the cylinders against the spacer bars to enhance the integrating effect.
