    • A package comprising a container and a molded plastic closure. The container neck has external threads formed thereon and an external frustoconical sealing surface formed above said threads and extending upwardly and radially inwardly. The closure comprises a panel and an integral depending annular skirt, the skirt having integral internal threads formed thereon complementary to the threads on the neck of the container. An integral annular side sealing rib extends radially inwardly from the inner surface of the skirt and engages the external frustoconical sealing surface of the container in an interference fit such that when the closure is threaded on the container, the rib is compressed into sealing relation with the external frustoconical sealing surface. The panel portion of the closure includes a portion adapted to engage the end of the neck of the container to form a top seal. The closure includes a flexible annular wall integrally connecting the periphery of the panel and the sealing rib.

    • A closure cap particularly suited for use with containers such as milk bottles includes multiple sealing areas as well as frangible locking means. The locking means is located near the lower rim of a skirt portion of the closure cap. If the locking means has not been tampered with, an interlocking engagement between the locking means and a complementary portion of the container retains the cap on the container. If the locking means has been tampered with, the cap can be removed from the container. A visual inspection of the closure cap readily indicates whether the locking means is in tampered or untampered condition. In one embodiment, the cap can be repeatedly snapped into place on the container, and in other alternative embodiments, the cap can be repeatedly threaded onto the container. The multiple sealing areas not only seal the contents of the container, but one of the areas also prevents dust, dirt, or other contaminants from having access to the other sealing areas.

    • An improved seal between a flexible plastic container and its closure cap, wherein the cap is provided with an internal annular shoulder engaging the tapered side surface of an annular lip provided by the neck of the container. The shoulder bears inwardly against the lip with a force sufficient to flex that lip inwardly and maintain the same in a condition of stress. Ideally, the cap is formed of a plastic of limited heat shrinkability at autoclaving temperatures; therefore, heat sterilization of the sealed container and its contents results in slight contraction of the cap and further increases the integrity of the seal. Where the container is formed of plastic material capable of softening slightly at autoclaving temperatures, the shoulder tends to penetrate the lip to a limited extent during such autoclaving to create an undercut in the lip. Later, when the contents of the container are to be used, removal of the closure produces an audible click as the shoulder is drawn from the undercut, thereby indicating that the seal has been broken.
