摘要： A radially expandable stent for implantation within a body lumen having a generally cylindrical body with open proximal and distal ends, the cylindrical body comprising a plurality of metal elements joined to allow flexing of the cylindrical body along the longitudinal axis of the body whereby the stent can conform to a curved body lumen and a polymeric film extending between the metal elements of the stent. The stent provides a biocompatible polymeric surface to contact and support a body lumen and also a flexible structure to allow the stent to conform closely to bends in a body lumen. The stent is especially useful for repairing an injury to blood vessels caused during angioplasty procedures.

摘要： An instrument particularly useful for locating and removing ureteral calculi and other occlusive objects from body passages. The instrument includes a flexible tube or sheath which slidably receives a tightly-twisted multi-stranded cable of a length greater than that of the tube, the cable having an integral cage portion at its distal end. That cage portion, which is normally collapsed and concealed within the distal end of the tube, may be extended beyond the tube to assume an expanded helical pear-shaped configuration for ensnaring and withdrawing ureteral stones and other passage-occluding bodies. The tightly wound strands of the cable are arranged in a circumferential pattern about an axial lumen which in one embodiment is useful for fluid drainage and injection and which in other embodiments accommodates conductors for transmitting light, images, and/or ultrasonic energy. The sheath or outer tube of the instrument is transparent, thereby permitting visual inspection of the spirally-wound cable slidably disposed therein. Suitable markings on the cable, visible through the transparent wall of the sheath, indicate the extent of insertion of the instrument during an operative procedure. The instrument also includes a handle for extending and retracting the cage, and suitable means for generating and transmitting light and ultrasonic waves.

摘要： A catheter for injecting medicants into the endocardium, myocardium or other portions of the cardiovascular system is presented where the catheter has apertures therein for ejection and retraction of a needle. The catheter is designed for the apertures in the catheter to press against the tissue to be injected in the heart while the heart is beating. A needle for inserting a prescribed dose of a medicant is ejected through the aperture and a plunger, pump, or diaphragm is moved to deliver a dose of the medicant to tissue adjacent the aperture. By use of the catheter gene therapy, wherein a small does of a gene are injected into the endocardium of the right or left ventricle, can be used to grow new blood vessels in the injected area of a damaged heart. The apertures in the catheter can be spaced at a prescribed distance for the dosage of medicant to form a precise pattern of injections in the area to be treated. The catheters may be used for any treatments of a human or animal patient where injections are required in the heart, veins or arteries of the cardiovascular system.
