    • Present systems and methods provide for adaptive job-size prediction that can enable the user of a scan-to-export function to obtain continuing feedback as original documents are being scanned, regarding the transferability of a scanned and processed data file. The compression method that is selected to process a scanned image is used to predict the output size for the associated data and to provide an estimated size for the job. The estimated size of the data being prepared for output is compared to the amount of storage space that is available at the target device and if the estimate exceeds available space, a signal is generated to terminate the scan or take other appropriate action. The user is also immediately notified if the transfer will fail for other reasons, such as the entry of an invalid target destination address or invalid user authentication.

    • What is disclosed is a system and method to improve the black and white image quality of tag-based color imaging systems in a color image path by making use of the additional two channels available. The present method exploits the resources of the two un-utilized channels during black and white processing. The single channel black-and white image is replicated into all three channels at the output of the storage memory. Segmentation tags are fed into each channel to control the image processing. Additional filters, TRCs and rendering methods will be available due to processing in all the 3 channels. Resources may additionally include such things as: filters, TRC mapping, and halftoning modules. The video output from the output image processing is merged back based on the segmentation tags. Different de-screen filters with various cut-off frequencies and enhancement filters are applied to the image based on pixel classification. One example of such an application is to use different cut-off frequency filters for text-on-tint pixels and different halftone frequency pixels. The number of TRCs and halftone screens available per page has also increased by 3 times. The method also applies to any image path that has extra channels available for certain scanning/copying modes.

    • Disclosed herein is a method and system for determining a billing structure for outputting documents using an image processing apparatus. If image data of the document includes color pixels, a billing structure is determined based on an estimated total color pixel count. The color pixels of the image data are counted in a device independent space and the total color pixel count of the image data to be output in a device dependent space is estimated. Based on the estimation, a billing structure is chosen. Processing and determining a billing structure based on image data in the device independent space avoids charging a customer for color print job when only a small amount of color pixels are printed. It also encourages determining charges independently of the marking engine or output device.
