    • Apparatus such as a furnace muffle (11) for use in a CVI/CVD furnace. The apparatus includes a bottom (12), a top (13), and an outer wall (3) defining an interior space (1) in the apparatus, and a passive heat distribution element (7, 9) located within the interior space (1) and apart from the outer wall (3). Preferably, the bottom (12) and top (12) include perforated plates and the outer wall (3) is cylindrical in shape and all are made of graphite or carbon-carbon composite material and the passive heat distribution element (7, 9) is cylindrical in shape and includes graphite or carbon-carbon composite discs having no spacers therebetween. Also, a method for densifying a porous carbon preform (5), which method includes the steps of: (a) providing the apparatus (11); (b) charging the apparatus (11) with a plurality of stacks of annular porous carbon preforms (5), the preforms being separated from one another by spacers (15); (c) locating the charged apparatus (11) in a furnace at a temperature in the range of 950-1100° C. and a pressure in the range of 5-40 torr; and (d) circulating a natural gas reactant blended with up to 15% propane through the apparatus for 150-900 hours. Also, a batch of carbon-carbon composite preforms made by the method, wherein the density of the batch of preforms is at least 0.5 g/cc higher than the density of a batch of preforms made by an otherwise identical process in which the apparatus does not contain a passive heat distribution element located within its interior. The preforms may be configured as aircraft landing system brake discs or racing car brake discs.

    • A packet processing system architecture and method are provided. According to a first aspect of the invention, a plurality of quality of service indicators are provided for a packet, each with an assigned priority, and a configurable priority resolution scheme is utilized to select one of the quality of service indicators for assigning to the packet. According to a second aspect of the invention, wide data paths are utilized in selected areas of the system, while avoiding universal utilization of the wide data paths in the system. According to a third aspect of the invention, one or more stacks are utilized to facilitate packet processing. According to a fourth aspect of the invention, a packet size determiner is allocated to a packet from a pool of packet size determiners, and is returned to the pool upon or after determining the size of the packet. According to a fifth aspect of the invention, a packet is buffered upon or after ingress thereof to the system, and a packet for egress from the system assembled from new or modified packet data and unmodified packet data as retrieved directly from the buffer. According to a sixth aspect of the invention, a system for preventing re-ordering of packets in a packet processing system is provided. A seventh aspect of the invention involves any combination of one or more of the foregoing.

Upgrades to the full version are enabled by setting a flag once the customer has paid for the upgrade. The customer is able to play one level or track for a game or to play the,game for limited period of time. Once the trial limit is reached, the content or game provider offers details on how to purchase the full version.

    • A gas turbine engine (40) having an active combustion control system (54) including a sensor element (44) positioned proximate the combustion chamber (46) as part of a sensor assembly (84) including a spring-action bellows (74). The sensor assembly is installed through an opening (69) in the casing (48) of the engine to make contact with the combustor wall (62). The bellows is compressed from its resting position by tightening mounting bolts (70) against a mounting flange (66) of the sensor assembly. The spring action of the bellows ensures contact between the sensing assembly and the combustor wall in spite of differential thermal growth between the casing and the combustor. The sensor element may be replaced by simply removing the mounting bolts without further disassembly of the engine.
