    • A sealing apparatus (20) has a slinger (22) with a substantially L-shaped cross-section including a cylindrical portion (22a) to be fitted on a member of rotational side and an upstanding portion (22b) radially extending from one end of the cylindrical portion (22a). In a rotation transmission device having a two-way clutch including rollers mounted between an inner member and an outer ring for selective transmission and non-transmission of rotation between the inner member and the outer ring, an electromagnetic clutch for controlling the locking and freeing of the two-way clutch, and a current control mechanism for controlling the locking and freeing of the two-way clutch, a current supplied to the current control mechanism is controlled based on an input signal from a sensor for detecting the load on the engine to shorten a delay in response until the two-way clutch locks after the supply of a current to the electromagnetic coil has begun and to prevent shocks during transition to 4WD.

    • A gear mechanism containing a clutch assembly made of an outer member and an inner member wherein the rotation of the inner member is less than one revolution. The inner member has a chord surface, and when inserted in the outer member a wedge shaped space is created. Rolling elements are mounted in the wedge shaped space such that when there is rotation of one of the members, the rolling elements are driven into one of the corners of the wedge shaped space causing the inner member to rotate with the outer member. A protrusion at a fixed location is used to dislodge the rollers. With the rollers dislodged, the inner member ceases rotation. Four embodiments are disclosed. In the first embodiment, two magnetic rollers are used to provide an engagement mechanism between the rollers and the corner of the wedge shape. The second embodiment discloses a single magnetized roller. The third embodiment discloses a spring separator positioned perpendicular to the chord to position two non-magnetic rollers. The fourth embodiment uses a spring separator position parallel to the chord to position two non-magnetic rollers. In applications where, in one direction, a rotation of less than one revolution is acceptable, the use of a fixed protrusion to dislodge the rollers allows the full torque of the driving member to drive the mechanism in either rotational direction.

    • A rotation transmission device is mounted in a drive train of a four-wheel drive vehicle to selectively distribute driving force to selected vehicle wheels according to the travel condition of the vehicle. This device includes an outer ring and an input shaft. A cylindrical face is formed on one of the opposed surfaces of the outer ring and the input shaft, while cam faces are formed on the other opposed surface to define a wedge-shaped space between the cylindrical face and each cam face. Rollers are mounted in pockets formed in a retainer mounted between the input shaft and the outer ring. An electromagnetic clutch is coupled to the retainer. A switch spring is mounted between the retainer and the input shaft. A two-way clutch is provided between the outer ring and the input shaft. A control unit controls the two-way clutch by adjusting the amount of current fed through a coil of the electromagnetic clutch according to the travel condition of the vehicle, thus selectively distributing driving force to selected vehicle wheels. A method of controlling the rotation transmission device is also proposed. Also, another transmission device is proposed which is mounted in the transfer of a vehicle.

    • Socket-type wrenches using a magnetic ratchet/clutch-type apparatus are disclosed. The apparatus preferably employs several pawls, as well as a ratchet-type wheel for engaging the pawls. The apparatus also utilizes the wrench's body which defines a chamber in which the wheel is received for rotation relative to the wrench body. The chamber also defines pockets for positioning the pawls adjacent the wheel to facilitate their movement between a drive position and a release position. In the drive position, at least one pawl is sandwiched between the wheel and a wall of the pocket to prevent the wrench body and the wheel from rotating relative to each other which enables a drive stroke to be made with the wrench. In the release position, the pawl is disengaged from the wheel which permits one to make a return stroke with the wrench. The apparatus further includes a ring magnet mounted on at least one side of the wheel for magnetically attracting the pawls to facilitate their movement into the drive position. Finally, the apparatus includes abutments which are utilized during the return stroke of the wrench to move the pawls out of engagement with the wheel.
