    • An automatic paper dispensing apparatus for dispensing one of toilet paper and paper towels includes a protective cover hingably attached to the housing, in which the housing of the paper towel dispensing version of said apparatus further includes a pair of parallel end shields disposed in a lower part of said housing, each of the parallel end shields being perpendicular to a rear plane of said housing and spaced to allow positioning of a rotatably supported support drum and a pressure roller used to ensure feeding of a strip of paper from a take-off reel disposed in an upper part of the housing. Each of the end shields include elastically deformable tongues having recesses to accommodate the pressure roller and to position opposing ends of the support drum. The housing of the toilet paper dispensing version includes a front end shield and a rear wall, each of the front end shield and a rear wall of the housing being spaced to allow positioning of the support drum and the pressure roller therebetween. Each of the front end shield and rear wall include plastically deformable tongues having recesses to accommodate the pressure roller and scallopings to position opposing ends of the support drum and wherein the protective cover includes horizontal tabs capable of engaging the tongues of the end shields of either said housing.

    • A pair of drawing members, separated by a prescribed distance, are rotated toward each other in contact with an end packaging material covering the ends of a web wrapped on a web roll. The drawing members are brought toward one another, creating an insertion section by gathering the end packaging and separating the end packaging from the web on the web roll. A cutting member is inserted into the insertion section. The web roll is then rotated, whereby the end packaging is cut and removed from an end of a web roll without damaging the web wrapped thereon. Similar drawing members and cutting members are preferably located at each end of an end packaging removal device, thereby simultaneously removing the end packaging material from both ends of the web roll. The resulting end packaging removal device saves time and labor involved in removing end packaging from a web roll.

    • An apparatus for dispensing and cutting measured amounts from a roll of web material includes a roll carrier disposed within a housing. A rotatable drum is disposed proximate to the roll carrier, with the roll carrier being biased towards the drum so that the web material carried by the roll carrier is frictionally engaged against the drum. The drum thus rotates upon a free end of the web material being pulled from the housing. The cutting mechanism is movably mounted within the housing external of the rotatable drum. The cutting mechanism is engaged by the drum along a portion of the rotational arc of the drum and is moved by the drum to a cutting position wherein a blade carried by the cutting mechanism moves across the conveying path of the web material and cuts the web material.

    • A method of converting a web of indefinite length into a plurality of web portions by slitting the web at a transverse point prior to processing the web portions into a plurality of use supply forms (such as rolls), wherein the plurality of web portions are separated by a two-stage process. A first stage of the process is a partial separation operation that almost entirely separates the web portions, but leaves the web portions connected, such as by a slitting operation that leaves a series of connected zones. The second stage includes the complete separation, such as by breaking of the connected zones. The complete separation of the web portions preferably occurs near the station at which the use supply forms are created, such as a winding station. Thus, the web portions, after substantial separation at the first stage can be handled (for example, guided and tensioned) as if the plurality of web portions were a full width web. But, after handling and transporting of the web portions to the use supply form station, the web portions are completely split so that the plural web portions can be wound or otherwise converted into a plurality of use supply forms.

The brewing method includes simultaneously supplying water and coffee grounds to a brewer, stopping the supply of both, allowing the mixture to steep and then beginning to remove the mixture from the brewer while reinitiating the supply of water to the brewer for a sufficient time to supply a complete cup of coffee at a cup station. The filter paper cutter cuts lengths of paper from a continuous supply of filter paper after it is used in the brewer to filter the coffee. The cutter is saw-toothed and a paper clamping mechanism is used to clamp the paper in the area where it is to be cut. The cut lengths of paper are collected in a removable tray and are compressed into a stack by a sweeper bar that is activated in conjunction with the cutter action.
