    • A latch assembly comprising a latch frame mounted to a door. A latch bolt is mounted to the latch frame for pivotal movement between a biased position extended position and a retracted position. The latch bolt includes a tip portion with opposing planar locking and shaped engagement surfaces. A link is pivotally mounted to the frame for movement between a biased blocking position and a release position. In the blocking position the link prevents movement of the latch bolt from the extended position. A push bar pivots the link to the release position in response to an applied force. A frame bolt is mounted to a door frame for linear displacement between a position projecting from the door frame and a position displaced toward the door frame. The frame bolt includes opposing engagement and planar locking surfaces. When the door is closed the planar locking surfaces are in opposing surface-to-surface contact securing the door to the frame.

    • A bracket having two parallel sides and an interconnecting crosspiece is attached to a disk drive or similar peripheral with the sides of the bracket extending longitudinally of the sides of the drive and the crosspiece extending across the front of the drive. A chassis of a computer or the like has internal parallel sides formed with horizontal guides to receive the bracket, a substantially open front face and an internal connector engageable with a mating connector on the rear of the drive when the bracket is fully inserted in the chassis. The sides of the bracket have features to protect the drive from horizontal and vertical vibrations. A handle is pivoted to the crosspiece near one end moveable between at least three positions: a first or latched position parallel to the crosspiece, a second position swinging out at about a 15° angle and a third position at about a 45° angle. In second position a first point on the end of the handle engages the front edge of the side and a second point is about to enter a slot in one side of the chassis. As the handle is pivoted toward third position the second point engages a margin of the slot and pulls the two connectors apart. To reinsert the drive, the positions of the handle are reversed. A spring biased latch engages a hook on handle. A second spring opens the unlatched handle from the first to second positions.

    • A swing lid locking mechanism prevents the lid of a container from accidentally opening when shocks act on the container. The swing lid locking mechanism comprises one of a pair of support legs formed integrally with the lid body of the lid and pivotally supported by support pins on the side wall of the container body, provided with a locking projection; and an impact locking device comprising a bottomed case provided with a longitudinal slot in one side wall thereof, a locking weight provided with a groove in an upper part of the outer side surface thereof across the width and a stopping projection in a middle part of the outer side surface, and axially slidably inserted in the case so that the stopping projection is received in the longitudinal slot of the bottomed case, and a spring compressed between the lower end of the locking weight and the bottom wall of the case. The bottomed case is attached to the outer surface of one side wall of the case body so that the front side of the locking weight is positioned behind and substantially contiguous with the first locking projection of the support leg at a position corresponding to the closed position of the lid of the container with the groove of the locking weight aligned with the locking projection of the support leg. The locking weight moves into the case by inertia when shocks act on the container.

    • A locking device is provided for a retractable support member for mobile machines and the like. The support member is movable between a retracted transport position and an operating support position. The locking device includes a locking bolt moveable between a locking position, an unlocking position, and a release position with the bolt being biased toward the locking position. An actuating member moveable between first and second end positions is provided for engaging a driving element extending from the locking member such that the locking bolt can be moved from the locking position to the unlocking position when the actuating member is moved from the first end position to the second end position. An engagement and guide member is connected to the support member and includes two locking surfaces engagable with the locking bolt for locking the support member in the transport and operating positions. The engagement and guide member also includes a cam portion between the two locking surfaces that is engagable with the locking bolt for displacing the locking bolt from the unlocking position to the release position wherein the driving element is disengaged from the actuating member and the actuating member consequently moves automatically from its second end position to its first end position. The locking device thereby assures that the, support member is automatically locked when in either the transport or operating position and that the locking device need only be actuated for unlocking the support member.
