A subscriber requests balance information for the subscriber's account using a mobile wireless device. The request may be made using a single-key interface on the subscriber's wireless device. In response to the request, a billing system queries a subscriber database and obtains the subscriber's account balance. The balance information is then returned to the subscriber as a page of information, such as a WAP page. The billing system may implement a feature that charges subscribers for checking their balances if certain criteria are met.

The invention describes a rating and routing system which is adapted to enable an efficient rating and routing of data transactions being transmitted through a network. Based on a comparison of identifiers associatable with a subscriber to the network, with a set of parameters defined for data transactions, the system of the present invention is adapted to enable an accurate assessment and allocation of the correct rating tariff value to a specific transaction and the routing of that rated value to an appropriate destination defined for the user.

摘要： A communications device such as a mobile telephone (1) responds to the input of a dialled number for a call destination (2) by generating and outputting a request message transmitted to a control centre (7) via a telecommunications system (3). The device receives a response message from the control centre containing routing data and credit data representing remaining credit within an account limit of the subscriber. An outgoing communications session is then initiated using the routing data which may for example enable a dialled telephone number to be modified to achieve optimum routing to the call destination via one or more preferred networks. The device also includes a credit control application (83) for limiting the duration of the communication in accordance with the credit data. Mobile telephones may thereby be used with a prepayment subscription account even during roaming operation in which the mobile telephone registers with a network other than the subscriber's home network.

摘要： A rule set is used to determine at least one rule for authorizing a transaction debiting an account of an authorized user. Subsequently, the account is debited, according to the at least one rule, in real time if the transaction is authorized. The real time debit is settled with transaction providers in accordance with at least one settlement rule. If it is determined that the authorized user does not have sufficient funds in an authorized user account to debit for the transaction, the authorized user account may be recharged by a recharge routine that includes determining a recharge user account to transfer funds from and authorizing the transfer by at least one of referring to a pre-authorized transfer and requesting authorization from the authorized user. The transaction may be requested and the transaction providers may be connected via heterogeneous networks.

Six exemplary methods are discussed for allowing the prepaid subscriber to directly dial a called party's long distance telephone number, and then routing the placed call to a prepaid service. The subscriber, in each case, is not required to first dial the telephone number of the prepaid service provider before dialing the called party.
