    • A frequency modulation circuit includes a calibration-operating part which calculates primary calibration values of modulation index at central frequencies of respective ones of n pieces of TF bands which constitute the entire TF range. Interpolation-calculation part performs an interpolation-calculation with respect to the n pieces of primary calibration values and calculates calibration values at intermediate frequencies of central frequencies of neighboring ones of TF bands while calculating calibration values at frequencies at both ends of entire TF range to obtain (n+1) pieces of interpolated calibration values as secondary calibration values. Calibration value supply part supplies one calibration value corresponding to the TF bands set in the TF band setting part from among the primary calibration values or secondary calibration values to a modulation part performing frequency modulation together with calculation based on the supplied calibration value.

    • A phase locked loop is disclosed having a frequency controlled oscillator (42), a feedback path, a time to digital converter (10) and a memory. The frequency controlled oscillator (42) comprises a first control input (135, 136) for varying the frequency of the output (106) of the frequency controlled oscillator (42) so as to track a reference frequency (101) and a second control input (139) for modulating the frequency of the output signal (106) so as to produce a chirp. The feedback path is configured to provide an input signal (107) to the time to digital converter (10), and comprises modulation cancelling module (14) operable to remove the frequency modulation resulting from the second control input (139) from the output signal (106). The memory stores second control input values that each correspond with a desired chirp frequency and which compensate for non-linearity in the response of the frequency controlled oscillator to the second control input (139). The phase locked loop is operable in a chirp mode, in which the second control input (139) is produced by determining a value for the second control input (139) corresponding with a desired chirp frequency based on the stored second control input values in the memory, and in which the phase locked loop is configured to determine the first control input (135, 136) based on the feedback path from which the modulation cancelling module (14) has removed the frequency modulation resulting from the second control input (139).

    • A frequency synthesizer device that includes two modulation paths and suitably adjusts the amplitude of a control voltage that is outputted from a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to a voltage-controlled oscillator. The frequency synthesizer device is provided with a voltage-controlled oscillator, a programmable frequency divider, a frequency phase comparator, a DAC, a switch and a modulation frequency displacement correction circuit. The voltage-controlled oscillator oscillates at an oscillation frequency depending on an input voltage. The programmable frequency divider frequency-divides a signal from the voltage-controlled oscillator. The frequency phase comparator outputs a phase difference between the frequency-divided signal and a reference clock. The DAC outputs an adjustment voltage. The switch connects the voltage-controlled oscillator to a reference voltage power source at a time of correction of the adjustment voltage. The modulation frequency displacement correction circuit specifies adjustment data that corresponds to the adjustment voltage corresponding to the target frequency displacement.
