    • The invention relates to a method of cutting thin laminae of stone, e.g. marble, which comprises bonding a backing layer to the opposed faces of a slab of stone, supporting the slab with backing layers attached, in an upward position on its edge, cutting the slab along a cutting plane parallel to and midway between the opposed faces of the slab to a depth which is about half the depth of the slab, tumbling the slab on to its opposite longitudinal edge, and cutting through the remainder of the depth of the slab to leave a lamina of stone adhered to each backing layer. The invention also includes apparatus for carrying out the aforesaid method, comprising a saw having two disc blades, a bogie movable beneath the saw and having a pair of vacuum-operated slab-gripping devices each of which is adapted to support a slab upwardly on its edge, and a second bogie movable in a direction transverse to the first bogie and carrying means for tumbling a slab supported on one longitudinal edge, through 180.degree., so that it rests on its opposite longitudinal edge.

    • A double degree acoustic attenuation sandwich panel having a plurality of stacked components adhered together to form a unitary sandwich structure. The structure comprising an impervious facing of thin sheet material, a first honeycomb core with end wise directed cells, a first perforate facing of thin sheet material, a first thin layer of porous fibrous material, a second perforated facing of thin sheet material, a second honeycomb core with end wise directed cells, a third perforate facing of thin sheet material, the second perforated facing sheet having substantially larger perforations than the first and third sheets, and a second layer of porous fibrous material. The resulting sandwich panel has a pre-determined flow through resistance between the outer surface of the first and second layers of porous fibrous material and the cells of the first and second honeycomb cores. The cells of the first and second honeycomb cores may be of equal or different volume and may be constructed of similar or dis-similar materials.

    • A method and apparatus for filling multi-cell or honeycomb cored panels wih fibrous insulation is described. Bales of insulation are reduced to particulate composition and evenly distributed within honeycomb panels.Insulation reduced to particulate composition is temporarily stored in an insulation feeder. Located within the feeder is a reciprocating grating that disperses the stored insulation at a controlled rate. Below the grating is an insulation conveyor belt that receives the dispersed insulation and transfers it to a point of discharge into a panel to be filled. The panel is conveyed over a vibrator to evenly distribute the insulation contained therein. The panel is also conveyed under reciprocating and rotary brushes that extend into the panel interior for uniformly packing the insulation to achieve an even predetermined insulation density. Flexible scrapers are located between the rotary brushes to scrape the surfaces of the panels clear of any insulation remaining on such surfaces.

    • An upright space divider panel having a rigid rectangular frame, and first and second thin sheetlike skins fixed to opposite sides of the frame and extending across the region defined therein. A honeycomb core structure is disposed within the frame and confined between the skins. The honeycomb core structure comprises a cellular honeycomb layer having a plurality of cells formed therein and extending across the width of the layer, so that opposite ends of the cells are closed by the skins. The first and second skins are identical and each have a plurality of openings formed therethrough. The openings in the first skin communicate with a first plurality of the cells for forming a first plurality of sound absorbing chambers which open outwardly through one side of the panel. The openings in the second skin communicate with a second plurality of the cells for forming a second plurality of sound absorbing chambers which open outwardly through the other side of the panel. The cells of the second plurality are different from the cells of the first plurality.

    • A composite structure manufactured from a cellular core formed by a plurality of rows of contiguous cells by cutting away from each of the end cells forming an edge of the core a portion or portions thereof. The edge of the core is closed by a flat edge member so that the cut-away portions provide a passage along the edge cellular core. Each cell of a row is provided with a communicating aperture to an adjacent cell of the row or each adjacent cell of the row. The cellular core is sandwiched between two facing sheets. In this way a panel is formed in which water can pass through the cellular core of the panel by way of the passages and apertures to a point at which a drain hole is provided.
