    • A flexible, grain-through edgeband (edgeband) having a swirl-type, or other type, pattern formed substantially throughout the thickness of the edgeband may be used to cover a portion of an edge of an object, such as a counter, a table, a shelf, or a furniture panel. The swirl-type, or other type, pattern may represent a simulated woodgrain or other effect, and may be visible when the edgeband is trimmed about flush with a top surface and/or a bottom surface of the object. The edgeband may be formed of a mixture of extruded or co-extruded materials having the same or different properties. Additionally, the edgeband may include a plasticizer in an amount sufficient to impart to the edgeband a flex modulus that enables the edgeband to be applied to concave or convex surfaces having radii of less than about ten (10) times the thickness of the edgeband.

    • The invention is directed to open-channel extrusions of plastic materials. In one aspect, an open-channel tubing is formed by extruding a first plastic material forming an elongate tube having the open channel; and extruding a second plastic material filling the open channel such that the second plastic material forms a weak bond with the first plastic material, and the weak bond is then selectively broken or dissolved to yield the open channel in the first plastic material. The first and second plastic materials are different from one another and each comprises at least one of polyester, polyethylene, nylon, polyurethane, HDPE, plastic elastomers (TPE) and Kraton. The first and second plastic materials are preferably extruded at about the same time. In another aspect, at least one of the first and second plastic materials may be doped with an additive to form the weak bond. The process of the invention may further comprise the step of mechanically stripping or removing the second plastic material from the first plastic material, chemically dissolving the second plastic material using a chemical solvent, or separating the second plastic material in a thermal melting process. Mechanically stripping the second plastic material may further comprise pressuring or evacuating the extruded elongate tube. To chemically dissolve the second plastic material, the first plastic material may include an aramid plastic, the second plastic material may include a styrene plastic, and the chemical solvent may be acetone or MEK. High and low-temperature plastics may be used to separate in the thermal melting process.

    • The present invention concerns in particular an extruded profiled element consisting of a cross-linkable rubber composition, a process for obtaining this profiled element, and a tire tread based on the said extruded and cross-linked profiled element. An extruded profiled element according to the invention is delimited in width by two lateral faces which connect radially inner and outer faces to one another for the tread, conducting means being provided in the profiled element to connect the inner face electrically to the outer face between the lateral faces and all along the length of the profiled element, the remainder of the profiled element being based on an electrically insulating material. This profiled element is such that, viewed in a cross-section of the profiled element, the conducting means have a layered structure comprising electrically conducting layers which are essentially concentric and which have a curvature towards at least one of the inner and outer faces, with at least one of the layers emerging at the surface of the outer face. The application of the invention relates in particular to the quality of radio wave reception by a radio fitted on board a vehicle equipped with tires.

    • A method of making a lightweight hose assembly (10) of the type adapted for carrying fuels and other corrosive fluids. The method includes the steps of extruding an inner tubular liner (12) of a fluorocarbon material. Glass fibers are then braided about the exterior of the liner (12) to form a braided layer (13). The inner tubular liner (12) and braided layer (13) are then passed through a reservoir containing a dispersion including a fluorocarbon polymer material, carrying agent, and surfactant therein. The surfactant distributes the fluorocarbon material throughout the braided layer (13) and about the inner liner (12). Subsequently, the assembly (10) is heated to remove the carrying agent and surfactant therefrom. The assembly (10) is then sintered to cure the fluorocarbon polymer material into a coating (14) dispersed throughout the braided layer (13) and about the inner liner (12).
