    • This invention relates to settlement tank installation for the clarification of liquids particularly water and including an inclined plate assembly for solids removal. The plate assembly comprises a multiplicity of flexible sheets suspended from an upper end and weighted at their lower ends which are located to give the desired angle of inclination to the sheets wherein preferably the upper ends of the sheets are connected to a fixed frame and the lower ends to a movable frame through rods extending across the frame and attached to the sheets. The assembly is installed in a tank with an inlet for liquid to be treated opening into a separating chamber, having perforated side walls next to which the inclined sheets are located and opening into an outer collection channel with the perforations extending substantially two thirds of the height of the inclined sheets and wherein an outlet for treated liquid is provided arranged to control the level of the liquid at the height of the top of the sheets in the end of the collection channel remote from the inlet. The tank also preferably including collection troughs in the floor at each end and a floor cleaning sweeper assembly comprising a blade extending across the width of the floor and connection at each side centrally to a rope passing around pulleys located at the top and bottom of each end of the separating chamber.

    • A waste water treatment apparatus of the type in which a carriage support rail extends across the top of the tank intermediate the side walls of the tank and a carriage is mounted on the rail and driven by a carriage drive including an endless chain which reciprocates the carriage along the rail, and a tank cleaning head is mounted on the carriage for movement along a path adjacent the bottom of the tank. The carriage support rail is in the form of a box-shaped beam having inwardly directed flanges at its underside and the chain is mounted inside the box-shaped beam to be protectively enclosed in the beam and the carriage has wheel mounting portions extending upwardly into the beam at opposite sides of the chain and carriage support wheels mounted on the wheel mounting portions inside the beam and in rolling engagement with the flanges on the beam to support the carriage for movement therealong. The chain has upper and lower runs extending lengthwise of the tank and carries a drive lug, and the carriage has an upper and a lower follower alternately engaged by the drive lug as it moves respectively along the upper and lower runs of the chain to reciprocate the carriage.

    • Recirculating filter for coolant oils for cutting tools including a main coolant tank having a liquid-separating tank disposed within and extending across the main tank to separate the first tank into an active zone along a dirty coolant inlet into the main tank on one side of the liquid separating tank and a settling zone on the opposite side of the liquid-separating tank. The liquid-separating tank has a dirty coolant area in communication with the active zone of the main tank and a clean coolant area separated from the dirty coolant area by a partition. A cyclone discharges clean liquid from its top into the clean coolant area of the liquid-separating tank and discharges solid particles and entrained oil into a barometric leg having communication with the settling zone of the main tank. An air inlet leads onto the barometric leg behind the apex of the cyclone. The Venturi action of the liquid and solid particles discharging through the apex of the cyclone, draws air through the air inlet to balance the liquid and solids discharging from the cyclone, and prevent the solid particles and liquid from building up into the cyclone. Swarf-controlled grates cooperate with a drag conveyor in the active zone of the main tank to reduce the floating swarf and cause it to be carried away by the drag conveyor.

A filter apparatus comprises a movable filter drum 1 with a filter screen 6, a nozzle 16 positioned laterally of the movement of the screen 6, a pump for pumping liquid to be filtered via inlet 21 through screen 6 into the drum 1, and a suction means (5) (Fig. 2 not shown) connected to nozzle outlet 25 and throttle 30 for selectively providing a flow of liquid into the nozzle, to carry away via the nozzle contaminant deposited during the filtering on screen 6, the flow of the liquid into the nozzle being either from the same side of the screeen as the nozzle to effect scouring, from the opposite side of the screen from the nozzle back through the screen 6 into the nozzle to effect backflushing or from both sides of screen 6 simultaneously to effect both scouring and backflushing. Nozzle 16 may be moved away from drum 1 by an air cylinder, hydraulic cylinder, electric motor or electric solenoid. Means may also be provided for automatically moving nozzle 16 towards drum 1 in response to a pressure rise in compartment 17 or a time cycle. Lips 27 of the nozzle may be metal, plastic, or rubber. The slurry or suspension taken into nozzle 16 may be filtered again. Screen 6 may comprise woven wire mesh. Material which settles in the filter can be removed by pressure relief valve. 29 which operates on an automatic time cycle. The filter may be used in conjunction with a settling tank with a drag conveyor for removing the solid (Fig. 4 not shown).
