    • A computer selected "quick pick" wagering system uses keys in the form of random numbers to serve as seed numbers in a pseudo-random number generating algorithm. A sales agent's terminal uses the algorithm and seed to produce random number combinations for each play from a pool, assigning the number combinations sequentially and printing them, together with a sequential serial number, onto lottery tickets. By storing the algorithm and seed at both the host computer and remote agent terminal, the remote terminal can transmit all pertinent wagering information by only transmitting the actual count of plays sold, thereby reducing the amount of data exchanged by several orders of magnitude. The host computer can then reconstruct the wagers and compare them to winning number combinations. Liability information for each terminal is transmitted back to the agent together with new seed numbers, so the agent terminal may begin selling plays for a new pool while also verifying accurate data exchange. The reduced data exchange makes available novel methods of data transfer, such as satellite packet transmission and cellular service.

    • An interactive apparatus and method allows participants to compete in an interactive game based on an event which is occurring in real time or in a simulated rotisserie type game. In one embodiment, selection and trading of players are used to optimize performance of a team. Team performance is used to place each participant into a league with at least one of national, regional, state, local and city/town competition in real time. A ticker tape or other visual display or audio broadcast or the like is shown or broadcast on a device of an interactive apparatus with real time score values indicative of the players' performance in the event. Using the interactive apparatus, the participants select and trade members on the team using a menu displayed or broadcast on the interactive device. The menu provides relevant information regarding the performance of the participant's team, and allows the participant to select and trade members on the participant's team with members listed in a contest roster database while the event is occurring in real time.

    • A bartop gaming system comprising a plurality of player stations interconnected to a table server which is connected to a modem provides players with a cashless way of playing a gaming system. The bartop gaming system allows a player to use a financial institution credit card for gaming purposes, thereby eliminating the need for the player to carry cash, as well as the need for the gaming system to handle cash. The table server controls the individual player stations, and utilizes the modem for communicating with a financial institution for credit card limit verifications, as well as for collecting gaming system usage and information and relaying that information to a central processing station in a remote location. The player station comprises a flat screen color LCD video display which results in a thin profile player station housing unit, thereby enabling the installation of the bartop gaming system through the removal and replacement of an existing bartop with the thin profile player stations installed into a replacement bartop, rather than through the removal and replacement of the entire bar comprising the bartop and bar base.

    • A method of playing a lottery game comprising inserting a currency bill or bank note bearing an alphanumeric code, such as a serial number, and denomination into a machine. The machine reads the alphanumeric code and denomination of the currency bill or bank note and stores the information as a set of numbers.
