摘要： An optical device including a microstructured fiber pumped by an external pulsed-light source. In one embodiment, the microstructured fiber includes two waist regions functioning as a tunable attenuator and a wavelength shifter, respectively. Output wavelength of the optical device is selected by attenuating the pump light in the first waist region and then passing the light through the second waist region to shift the pump energy to a new spectral band. An optical device of the invention configured with two or more microstructured fibers generates two or more synchronized pulsed beams, each at a different characteristic wavelength. Certain embodiments of the invention provide an inexpensive, compact, energy-efficient multi-wavelength synchronized pulsed-light source.

摘要： An embodiment of the invention provides a thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) array substrate comprising: a gate line and a data line that intersect with each other to define a pixel region; and a pixel electrode and a thin film transistor formed in the pixel region. The thin film transistor comprises: a gate electrode connected with the gate line; a semiconductor island positioned above the gate electrode; and a source electrode and a drain electrode that are formed on the semiconductor island. A surface of the semiconductor island contacting with the source electrode and the drain electrode comprises ohmic contact regions subject to a surface treatment and a region of the semiconductor layer between the source electrode and the drain electrode is covered with a barrier layer. An example method obtains an optical signal on a first segment of transmission media having a first spatial assignment and forwards the optical signal on a second segment of transmission media with a different spatial assignment. The transmission media may be a multi-core fiber (MCF), a multi-mode fiber (MMF), a few-mode fiber (FMF), or a ribbon cable comprising nominally uncoupled single-mode fiber (SMF).

摘要： A digital version of both amplitude and phase of a received optical is developed by employing direct differential detection in conjunction with digital signal processing. The signal is split into three copies. An intensity profile is conventionally obtained using one of the copies. Phase information is obtained by supplying each remaining copy to a respective one of a pair of optical delay interferometers that have orthogonal phase offsets, followed by respective balanced intensity detectors. The output of each of the balanced intensity detectors, and the intensity profile, are each converted to respective digital representations. Signal processing is used to develop the phase information from the digital representations of the output of the balanced intensity detector outputs.

摘要： An apparatus for blocking unwanted calls is disclosed. The apparatus incorporates a whitelist which the user can program so that known friendly callers are not interrupted by the apparatus. The apparatus also incorporates a blacklist which automatically rejects known unwanted callers so that the user is not interrupted by these calls. Additionally, the apparatus allows the user to easily add new numbers to either the blacklist or white list and also to delete numbers from the white list, blacklist or master list of caller IDs. For new numbers, callers are presented with a simple but yet effective message that states that the caller should hang up if the caller is a solicitor or telemarketer, or otherwise press zero so that the apparatus can allow the call to go through to the telephone.

At least one nucleotide in the modified oligonucleotide is artificially mismatched relative to the control nucleic acid in addition to any mismatches arising from a variant nucleic acid target containing a sequence variation. The artificial mismatch and the sequence variation positions are separated from one another on the oligonucleotide by six to nine nucleotide positions.

摘要： The invention provides a method for identification of alleles. In this method, genomic DNA is used as target. Multiple allele-specific PCR amplification are carried out with a group of primers comprising one or more allele-specific primers for a target gene, a universal primer, and a common primer; and a DNA polymerase without 5′ to 3′ exonuclease activity. The PCR products are hybridized with tag probes immobilized on a DNA chip. Results are determined based on the signal intensity and the position of the probe immobilized on the array. Each allele-specific primer comprises a unique tag sequence at the 5′ end. Each tag probe immobilized on the DNA chip comprises a sequence identical to its corresponding tag sequence; and each tag probe hybridizes only with the complementary sequence in the PCR amplification product.

摘要： An apparatus transmits data using a format where information bits intended for transmission are mapped into symbols each carrying a plurality of bits, some of which are encoded through pulse position modulation (PPM) format and the rest of which are encoded through an additional modulation format on each PPM pulse. The additional modulation format for the PPM pulse may be at least one of a polarization-division-multiplexed (PDM) modulation, phase-shift keying (PSK) modulation, polarization shift keying (PolSK) modulation, amplitude modulation (AM), quadrature-amplitude modulation (QAM) modulation, or a combination thereof. In one embodiment, the additional modulation of the PPM pulses is through polarization-division-multiplexed quadrature-phase-shift keying (PDM-QPSK). The unique combined use of PDM-QPSK and PPM produces much higher receiver sensitivity than either PPM or PDM-QPSK alone.
