The air tube is readily incorporated into a film processing system that includes a plurality of processing tanks, a film drying apparatus including a plurality of the air tubes, and a mechanism for transporting a photosensitive film through the processing tanks and into the film drying apparatus.

    • A photosensitive material drying device comprising a plurality of far infrared radiation heaters for heating a film are disposed so as to meet at right angles to a direction in which a film is conveyed. The reflectivity of each reflector disposed along the film conveying direction is set so that the reflectivity of each of longitudinally-extending ends of the film is greater than a longitudinally-extending central portion thereof. Therefore, the amount of reflected heat received by the film is associated with the reflectivity. That is, the amount of heat generated from the far infrared radiation heater at longitudinally-extending ends thereof is lower than that at a longitudinally-extending central portion thereof, whereas the amount of heat radiated over the film via the reflector is set such that the amount of heat at the central portion of the far infrared radiation heater is greater than that at the longitudinally-extending ends thereof. Therefore, the amount of heat received by the film becomes uniform along the transverse direction of the film, thereby making it possible to uniformly dry the film and prevent uneven dryness and gloss from occurring.

    • The supply of water to a diazo printer is varied in relation to the speed of operation of the printer by deriving a train of pulses recurrent at a repetition rate proportional to printer speed, applying the pulses to an adjustable digital divider which divides down the repetition rate by an adjustable divisor D, and applying the divided-down pulse train to a water pump to control the rate of water supply. Switching means are provided in the divider to enable adjustment of the valve of the divisor D. This permits adjustment of the absolute rate of water delivery for any given motor speed, after which the rate will automatically change in proportion to printer speed.

    • A diazo copy machine of the type utilizing ammonia vapors to develop exposed copy material and which utilizes a suction chamber for collecting and drawing off the ammonia vapors escaping from the development chamber and given off by developed copy material. The disclosed machine features an integrated ammonia vapor absorber canister which is mounted within the copier housing or secured by means of brackets to the rear of the machine housing and through which is directed the collected ammonia vapors by means of a plugin tube insertable in one end of the canister. This directs the ammonia vapor containing discharge from the suction chamber through the canister. In one version, the canister contains a composite of granular and fibrous absorbent materials to insure complete absorption of the ammonia vapors and to avoid channelization of the materials. In this latter version, the canister is inclined upwardly from the point whereat the ammonia vapor containing exhaust is directed into the canister to provide further protection against channelizing of the absorbent material within the canister.

To develop an exposed copy, it is contacted with ammonia vapors in the development section. The ammonia vapors absorbed by the copy material are released by heating the copy to an elevated temperature in the degassing section from which the copy is deposited in the enclosed receptacle.     • A method and arrangement for achieving a thorough degassing of developed diazo copy material to eliminate the ammonia vapors permeating the developed diazo copy material as a result of the development process. The developed copy is moved from a development chamber containing the developing vapors into a degassing chamber, where the developed copy material is passed over a heated surface in intimate contact therewith to drive out the ammonia from the copy material. The ammonia vapors are carried away by a suction pump or fan to an external ammonia absorbing canister. In a first version, the heated contact surface is provided by a heated tube about which the developed print is drawn after passing off a developer-drive cylinder. In a second version, the developer-drive cylinder moves the developed copy material past a longitudinal seal engaging the drive cylinder, with the region on one side of the seal comprising a heated development chamber, while the region on the other side of the seal is subjected to a suction to evacuate the ammonia vapors. A heated, trough-shaped steel metal guide is positioned to receive and guide the developed copy material out of the machine to augment the degassing effect provided by contact with the heated developer-drive cylinder in the region subjected to suction.
