    • A system for restraining the lower limbs of a prisoner being conveyed in a vehicle, such as a police car, to preclude injury to persons and to property by violent kicking action of the prisoner. The system utilizes a laminated strap having synthetic hook and loop fastening elements formed on one ply of the laminate and a reinforced vinyl backing formed on the other ply. One end of the strap is fastened to a grommet through which the other end of the strap may be drawn and folded over so that hook elements and loop elements may be engaged to adhere while the vinyl portion of the strap is tightly engaged about the lower limbs of the prisoner. A belt having a catch in the form of a buckle at one end of the belt is attached to the strap at the other end. The catch is tossed out the door of the vehicle and is lodged against a portion of the door and the adjacent door frame. The catch has a magnet bonded to a flat surface thereof so that it can adhere to the vehicle and not fall away.

    • An automobile partition apparatus is described including a curved vertical sliding partition window which, to provide greater rear seat legroom, is mounted on vertically curved tracks attached to the front surface of a shield plate separate from and located behind the front seat backrest. The shield plate and partition are attached to a roll bar to form an integral unit which is removably mounted on the body of the automobile to enable the unit to be removed without damage for use on another automobile. The window slides vertically between a closed position above the shield and an open position below the top of the shield where such window is located between the shield and the front seat backrest. The legs of the roll bar are curved to provide more head and shoulder room for rear seat passengers. A simple and compact window raising mechanism is mounted on the front of the shield which employs a flexible line having one end attached to the partition window. The line extends over pulleys mounted on the shield to a coil spring which moves horizontally to cause vertical movement of the partition window. A spring biased latch holds the sliding window in the open or closed positions and such latch is released manually or by a remotely operated solenoid in front of the partition apparatus.

    • A safety device for protecting a vehicle occupant from injury during a collision of a motor vehicle which safety device comprises, an inflatable confinement which is normally held in a contracted position, a source of a pressurized fluid capable of communicating with the inflatable confinement to supply the pressurized fluid to the inflatable confinement for thereby inflating the same when the motor vehicle is encountered the collision, a diffusing member operatively disposed in the inflatable confinement and having a plurality of apertures opening in a direction to inflate the inflatable confinement for directing the flow of the pressurized fluid to the inflatable confinement, the diffusing member communicating with the source of pressurized fluid, a mounting base member for supporting the inflatable confinement, and means for defining an exhaust passage opening to the atmosphere. The exhaust passage communicates with the inflatable confinement, whereby when the pressurized fluid is admitted to the inflatable confinement through the plurality of apertures of the diffusing member, the pressurized fluid initially inflates the inflatable confinement and subsequently discharges from the exhaust passage to absorb the impacting force of the vehicle occupant against the confinement.
