    • A linear reformer for liberating hydrogen from a hydrogen containing feedstock, operable on both gaseous and liquid fuels, has a linear burner distributor with at least two fuel distribution apertures for distribution of fuel, a supply of air, where the fuel and air mix in a linear mixing cavity to form a catalytically combustible mixture, a catalytic burner element, an electric heater in heat transferring relation to at least one of the burner distributor and the catalytic burner element, a catalyst bed, a boiler for boiling and heating the feedstock, and an exhaust heat exchanger effective for pre-heating the supply of air to the burner. The burner distributor, catalyst bed, feedstock boiler, and exhaust heat exchanger are all linear elements with a common parallel axis, such that heat exchange gases from the burner travel transversely to the common parallel axis, and where the burner distributor receives heat from the electric heater such that incoming fuel may be at least partially vaporized, and the electric heater heats the catalytic burner element to sufficient temperature such that the vaporized fuel and air mixture initiates catalytic combustion.

    • The ammonia content of fuel gas in an IGCC power generation system is reduced through ammonia decomposition, thereby reducing the NO.sub.x emissions from the plant. The power generation system includes a gasifier, a gas turbine and at least one catalytic reactor arranged between the gasifier and the gas turbine. The catalytic reactor may be either a three stage or two stage device. The three stage reactor includes a first catalyst which promotes water-gas-shift, a second catalyst which promotes CO methanation, and a third catalyst which promotes ammonia decomposition. The two stage reactor includes a first catalyst which promotes water-gas-shift and CO methanation and a second catalyst which promotes ammonia decomposition. The plural catalytic stages may be disposed in a single vessel or successively disposed in individual vessels, and the catalysts may be in a pelletized form or coated on honeycomb structures. Alternatively, fluidized bed reactors may be used. The reactions are carried out either adiabatically or non-adiabatically. Heat from the water-gas-shift and CO methanation reactions may be used to generate steam, which can be injected downstream or sent to a steam turbine. Preferably, a second catalytic reactor is provided in parallel with the first reactor so that the two reactors can alternately receive fuel gas from the gasifier.

    • A device for applying additives to industrial gas comprises a container, and first, second and third conduits providing communication from outside the container to the interior thereof. One of the conduits introduces a fluid gas additive to the interior of the container and another of the conduits introduces fuel gas into the interior of the chamber. The gas is introduced into the container at a point below the level of the fluid gas additive so that the gas percolates upwardly through the additive, thereby causing mixing of the additive with the gas. The third conduit includes an inlet positioned at the upper end of the chamber above the level of the gas additive. This third conduit receives the vapor mixture of fuel gas and fuel additive and carries this vapor mixture to the cutting torch. A valve is associated with the first conduit so as to limit the level of liquid within the container at a predetermined height. A safety valve is also associated with the third conduit to close the third conduit in the event the liquid level rises higher than the opening of the third conduit.
