摘要： A remote controller for a television/video recorder having a function of measuring a body fat includes a display section for displaying a measurement of the body fat and a message questioning whether or not a user to be examined carries a specific medical device such as a pacemaker, a reply entry section for entering a reply to the message, and a control section for controlling the action of a body fat meter. The control section directs the display section to display the message prior to the measurement of the body fat. Then, when receiving from the reply entry section a reply indicating that the user carries a pacemaker, the control section inhibits the measurement of the body fat and directs the display section to display a message of the inhibition. When receiving from the reply entry section a reply indicating that the user carries no pacemaker, the control section enables the measurement of the body fat of the user through registering the physical data including the weight and the height of the user. This safety feature can thus protect and hold the user who carries a specific medical device such as a pacemaker in the safety.

摘要： Electronic devices (16, 17) can be controlled by a control unit (11), which in turn is responsive to infrared commands (33) received from a remote (12) utilized by an operator. The remote has a touch-panel display (49), on which images can be displayed. The images are part of a user interface created by a program (86) running in a personal computer (13). An operator enters into the computer an identification of the devices (16, 17) which are to be controlled, and the computer then takes predefined images and automatically customizes them for the these devices. Some of the images have a size which is less than the overall size of the display, so that when one of these images is displayed, a portion of at least one other image will also be visible. For a controlled device which does not recognize each of a discrete power on, discrete power off and power toggle command, the computer automatically effects configuration so as to provide all three functions using a subset of commands which the controlled device actually does recognize.

摘要： An intuitive graphical user interface is based upon a geographic map structure, and includes a system for controlling remote external electronic devices. In the defined graphical user interface, each space of the geographic map structure is rendered on a touch screen display as a graphic image of a geographic space. Within each space are colored cartoon-like icons called "objects" which can be selected and manipulated by the user. Certain objects, referred to as portals, transport the user from one space to another space when Selected. Other objects, referred to as buttons, perform associated actions or functions when Selected. The graphical user interface is displayed on a hand-held display device used to control remote devices. Each remote electronic device transmits a user interface program object that defines a graphical user interface to the display device. The hand-held display devices displays the graphical user interface associated with the remote device when a user selects an icon associated with the remote device on the display device's touch screen display.

摘要： A complex television system is provided for accommodating at the same time both highly technically oriented and less technically oriented users of the system. The system includes a state of the art complex television, a complex remote control transmitter device for use by the technically oriented user in both programming and, if desired, controlling the television, and a simple auxiliary remote control transmitter device for the less technically oriented user. The simple auxiliary remote control transmitter device has a minimum of keys, such as power-on, channel-up, channel-down, volume-up, and volume-down, as well as a switch which identifies the user. Different power-on and channel-up and down codes for each switch position is provided by the simple auxiliary remote control transmitter device, and each such code is different than the corresponding codes of the complex remote control transmitter device. In this manner, a microprocessor in the television will recognize which user is in control. By using the complex remote control transmitter device, values for personal preference parameter and/or channel rings associated with each user may be entered and stored in a programmable memory of the television. Then, when the television recognizes the power-on code for a particular user, the personal preference parameter and/or channel rings are immediately accessed. In this manner, less technically oriented users may be the beneficiaries of complex personal preference rings programmed by them by a highly technically oriented user, and will only have to deal with a simple auxiliary remote control transmitter device to control the television.
