摘要： A golf ball may include a UV curable coating layer that is only partially cured upon finishing. The golf ball may be used in its partially cured state in a game of golf, where the partially cured state may be advantageous for play under wet conditions. The coating layer may then further cure upon exposure to UV light, such as ambient environmental light from the sun during a game of golf in sunny conditions. As a result of this further curing, the coating may transition to a cured state that is associated with play characteristics that are advantageous for play under sunny dry conditions.

摘要： A cured elastomer golf ball component is made by heating an elastomer compound containing an ethylenically unsaturated elastomer, an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and first and second free radical initiators to a first crosslinking temperature T1 in a compression mold and partially crosslinking the elastomer, then heating to a second crosslinking temperature T2 and curing the elastomer component of the golf ball. Either: (i) the first initiator has a half-life of about 0.2-5 minutes at T1, the second initiator has a half-life of about 0.2-5 minutes at T2, and T2 is higher T1 by at least about 30° C.; or (ii) the second initiator's one-minute half-life temperature is at least about 30° C. higher than the first initiator's one-minute half-life temperature, T1 is within about 20° C. of the first initiator's one-minute half-life temperature, and T2 is within about 20° C. of the second initiator's one-minute half-life temperature.

摘要： This disclosure relates to golf balls having a cover layer made from a crosslinked thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer. The crosslinked thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer includes crosslinks located in the hard segments, where the crosslinks being the reaction product of unsaturated bonds located in the hard segments catalyzed by a free radical initiator. The crosslinks may be formed from an unsaturated diol as a chain extender. The unsaturated diol may be trimethylolpropane monoallylether (TMPME). The cover layer may have certain properties, such as a desirable flexural modulus value and a desirable Shore D hardness value, that further contribute to the golf ball having a high degree of scuff resistance.

The ethylene acid copolymers comprise copolymerized units of ethylene, about 10 to about 30 wt % of copolymerized units of a first α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 10 carbon atoms; and about 5 to about 15 wt % of copolymerized units of a derivative of a second α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 10 carbon atoms. Preferred derivatives include esters, and in particular alkyl esters. These ethylene acid copolymers and ionomers have improved optical properties when compared to conventional ethylene acrylic or methacrylic acid copolymers and their ionomers.

The ball has optimized relationships among the cross-sectional hardness at the center of the first layer obtained by cutting the solid core in half, the surface hardnesses of the first to third layers, and the respective hardnesses of the intermediate layer and the cover. The golf ball has an increased distance on full shots with a driver and an improved controllability in the short game, and on full shots also confers an agreeable feel at impact characterized by a solid sensation that includes a soft touch.
