摘要： A filler instrument comprises a first chamber section having a first cross sectional area and a second chamber section having a second cross sectional area less than the first cross sectional area. The second chamber section communicates with the first chamber section. The first chamber section includes an inlet for receiving a material into the filler instrument, and the second chamber section includes an outlet for discharging the material from the filler instrument. A first plunger is sized to pass through the first chamber section and not the second chamber section. A second plunger is sized to pass through an interior bore of the first plunger and into the second chamber section. In use, the first plunger displaces material residing in the first chamber section through the second chamber section toward the outlet, and the second plunger displaces material residing in the second chamber section through the outlet.

摘要： A vacuum package system for hydrating and/or rehydrating orthopedic graft materials, such as allograft materials, xenograft materials, and synthetic materials, is described. The system primarily includes a container, which includes a dividing device for dividing the container into first and second compartments and for isolating the compartments from one another, the first compartment containing a liquid component and the second compartment containing either dry porous and/or dehydrated orthopedic graft material under vacuum with a tubular member. The elongated tubular member extends from, and is in communication with, the second compartment. The tubular portion defines vacuum reservoir device is disposed within the first compartment and is in communication with the second compartment. The vacuum reservoir device is capable of taking up substantially all residual interstitial gases and thereby ensuring thorough infusion of the liquid component into the orthopedic graft material component upon release of the dividing device so as to form either a hydrated and/or rehydrated orthopedic graft material. An optional gas permeable but liquid impermeable membrane is disposed between the second compartment and the pocket portion.

The structure undergoes stress when expanded during its first use in bone. As a result, the structure can not be relied upon to reach its desired configuration during subsequent use in bone. Accordingly, the structure is packaged in a sterile kit, which verifies to the physician or user that the device packaged within it is sterile and has not be subjected to prior use. The physician or user is thereby assured that the expandable structure meets established performance and sterility specifications, and will have the desired configuration when expanded for use.

The high strength osteoarticular allograft of the instant invention includes an osteoarticular allograft having an intramedullary canal and a cancellous bone region, and a filler impregnating the intramedullary canal and a portion of the cancellous bone region. The method of making a high strength osteoarticular allograft includes the following steps: (1) providing an osteoarticular allograft having an intramedullary canal and a cancellous bone region; (2) providing a filler; and (3) impregnating the intramedullary canal and a portion of said cancellous bone region with said filler.

摘要： A method and apparatus for accumulating bone dust in a fluid from a surgical site or the like, wherein a collecting vessel is provided that has an inlet opening near one end thereof and an outlet opening near the opposite end thereof. A permeable plunger is slidably mounted in the vessel for movement between a first position wherein it is disposed between the inlet opening and the outlet opening, and a second position wherein it is disposed near the one end of the vessel. Fluid containing bone dust from a surgical site is conveyed through the inlet opening into the vessel when the plunger is in the first position, such that the fluid passes through the plunger and through the outlet opening. The plunger is of a construction to prevent the bone dust from passing therethrough such that it is accumulated between the plunger and the one end of the vessel. When sufficient bone dust is accumulated, the plunger is moved to the second position to move the accumulated bone dust toward the one end of the vessel for removal therefrom.

The instrument includes a bulb syringe, a shaft and a head configured to sealingly engage an acetabular liner to create a sealed area between the acetabular liner and the head. The bulb syringe is used to create a vacuum in the sealed area and/or to force air into the sealed area. After the acetabular liner is placed into an acetabular cup, the vacuum is released and/or air is forced into the sealed area to force the acetabular liner off of the head.

The method and apparatus utilize a subatmospheric pressure formed in a hollow passage of an elongate body to secure an acetabular shell to a shell-engaging head removably attached to a coupler end of the elongate body. Liner-engaging heads may also be removably attached to the coupler end to install socket liners into an implanted acetabular shell. The elongate body may comprise a bent portion to allow access to the acetabulum through a minimally invasive incision.
