摘要： The movement of a catheter through a medium, which may be living tissue such as a human brain, is controlled by mechanically pushing a flexible catheter having a magnetic tip through the medium and applying a magnetic field having a magnitude and a direction that guides the mechanically-pushed catheter tip stepwise along a desired path. The magnetic field is controlled in a Magnetic Stereotaxis System by a processor using an adaptation of a PID (proportional, integral, and derivative) feedback method. The magnetic fields are applied by superconducting coils, and the currents applied through the coils are selected to minimize a current metric.

摘要： A destructive heat lesion is placed in any location in the brain. A patient's head is secured within a stereotactic frame. After a high resolution CT scan and angiogram or MRI, data is incorporated and analyzed by a computer. This information is then resynthesized and projected as a video image on a screen facing the surgeon. A small magnetic object, perhaps a ball, is inserted into the patient's head via a burr hole drilled through the patient's skull. Using, real time fluoroscopic data superimposed on the computer image of three-dimensional structures, the surgeon is able to control and manipulate the object through the patient's soft brain tissue to a position next to or inside of the tumor area. An energy beam is then fired at the object, causing the more heat efficient object to destroy the brain tumor area. This procedure is repeated until the entire tumor is eradicated by the highly localized hyperthermia. The above procedure can be used to deliver hyperthermia, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other agents or treatments to the brain and other parts of the body as well.

摘要： A method for controlling a magnetic catheter by using a magnetic-field-generated magnetic annulus is disclosed. The magnetic catheter has a free end provided with a magnetic member. A resultant magnetic field between at least two magnets generates a magnetic annulus. The magnetic catheter is placed into the magnetic annulus, so that the magnetic member is affected by the magnetic force from the magnetic annulus to guide the magnetic catheter to perform a preset motion. The magnetic catheter has a flexible front section, so that the flexible section can perform a bending motion when led by the magnetic member. The resultant magnetic field is generated by arranging the two magnets with their like poles facing each other, so that the magnetic member is thrust when entering the magnetic annulus. This facilitates the bending motion of the flexible section.
