    • A method is provided by which a reagent is provided to a living sample, including contacting a thin-film containing a porous body with a living sample containing cells or tissues, and discharging a solution containing at least one or more reagents to a non-contact side of the thin-film by ink-jet to provide the solution to the specific area of the living sample through pores on the thin-film, wherein the smaller diameter of the pores on the porous body relative to the diameter of cells in the living sample enables the reagent to be provided to each individual cell separately. According to this method, the reagent and the reaction product can be fixed while maintaining positioning information of the target substance in the living sample, as a pretreatment for analyzing with high positioning accuracy the target substance in each individual cell in the living sample.

    • An active noise control system is capable of canceling out noise in the passenger compartment of a vehicle based on low-frequency road noise. The active noise control system has a feed-forward control unit for being supplied with reference signals highly correlated to noise from a noise source and generating a noise cancellation signal which is out of phase to noise in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, and a canceling sound generating unit disposed in the passenger compartment for generating a noise canceling sound in response to the noise cancellation signal from said feed-forward control unit. The active noise control system also has microphones for generating reference signals which are positioned respectively near the base of the front seat, near the center of a roof, and within a trunk compartment, i.e., respectively at vibrational antinodes of a primary or secondary acoustic normal mode of the passenger compartment in the longitudinal direction thereof. Output signals from the microphones are supplied as the reference signals.

    • The absorber for use in absorption chillers of the present invention comprises a plurality of cooling water pipes 2 extending horizontally in the interior of the absorber chamber. A plurality of flat heat transfer plates 1 are spaced apart from one another and arranged horizontally in a vertical position, and the plurality of cooling water pipes 2 extend through these heat transfer plates 1 perpendicular thereto. The pitch Pd of the plates 1 is 3 to 15 mm. Each heat transfer plate 1 is integrally formed on its upper end face with an absorbent receptacle 10 V-shaped in cross section and extending longitudinally of the upper end face. The bottom portion of the receptacle 10 is formed with two rows of absorbent holes 11 positioned upwardly of respective surfaces of the plate 1. The holes 11 of each row are spaced apart from one another longitudinally of the plate 1 and each have an outlet adjoining the surface of the plate 1. This enables an absorber to have a higher absorbing capacity than conventional absorbers.
